Before we go any further, let me address the elephant in the room. I've known a lot of highly knowledgeable people throughout my career. Very, very passionate people, whether it's politics, whether it's economics, many of them have talked about teaching and creating their own courses, online courses. Most of them don't. Why is that? Is it because they don't really know enough?
No, here's my belief. Here's my assumption, that most people who don't actually go all the way to teach a course, are insecure about standing up and speaking. It's not a fear of public speaking of the sense of, oh my gosh, I'm going to shake me and against sweat, but it's still a sense of, I'm not quite good enough. I'm not quite comfortable. I've only had a few more guest lectures here. If only I rehearsed or practice more here with some coach in the future that I'll never see.
If only I had a better TV studio. These are the things that hold many people back. It's not your lack of knowledge. It's not your lack of expertise. It's the ability to really visualize yourself as a good teacher, and an interesting teacher. So I'm going to spend a fair amount of time on that part.
It's a little different from what you might hear, see in other courses on how to be an online trainer, online teacher, but I do think it's the thing that holds people back, even the courses where they're just capturing the screen of the computer and you hear the voice. Many people don't do that because they don't like the sound of their own voice. That's a big problem. So I want you to really reflect for a moment Are you comfortable with how you come across when you speak how you look how you sound? I don't mean do you love every part I don't love everything about how I look and sound. I'd love to have a thick head of hair the way I did 30 years ago.
It's not about being perfect, but are you comfortable with the idea that people can see you look at you listen to you judge you or if you're not completely comfortable are you willing to work on if you're willing to work on it, I can help you get to the point where you are completely comfortable lecturing to others in an online virtual environment, but also in real life too. So that's what I want you to think about. If you're willing to work with me. Then I'm going to get you to the point where you are as comfortable and as relaxed on camera. As an evening network news anchor, it can be done, but it does require work. So in the next series of lectures, I'm going to give you the specific how tos of how to actually lecture Stay tuned.
