If you truly want to be an advanced media professional, someone who really uses the media at a superstar level, I think that you need to think of video is your primary mode of communicating. Now, some of you may be authors. That's okay. You may have a passion for writing novels. But I want you to think about something from think of the the most respected novelist, you know, who are living in your day or since you've been born. Chances are other people who have heard of them who might not be a fan of their works, and I've read them extensively know them, through talk show appearances.
Here in the United States, if you ask people to name the most famous novelist of the last 5060 years, they'd often say, people like Norman Mailer Garvey doll, why are they so well known because of their appearances In the media in a video format, specifically going on TV shows, talk shows. You ask people to name the most famous attorneys in the United States, they would name people like Alan Dershowitz. Why? Because he's been on TV more than almost any other attorney and the same is likely true in your country as well. Here's the thing that I've discovered over the years is that video seems the hardest. It's actually the easiest because there's less competition.
Most people are insecure, everybody has some insecurities. But people are insecure about putting their face on video so they stay away from it. So what do I mean by that? If you go right now to Amazon, and type in public speaking 20,000 citations will come up 20,000 books and other products So if you write a book on public speaking, first of all, you're gonna have to write for months, maybe years to come up with a new book. And now you got to compete with 20,000. If you create a course, that's video based on public speaking and put it here on Udemy, and that's 20,000 courses to compete with, there are a few hundred.
So where would you rather compete against 20,000 or a few hundred. I did a course on soft skills. Again, you type in soft skills on Amazon, thousands and thousands of books show up a few months ago when I did that on Udemy to shut up. So I did a course on that I'm number one. It's pretty easy to be number one, when your competition is just a handful or fewer. So I believe that speaking is the most powerful form.
Communication when people can see you and hear you, it's very powerful. So even if your main mode of communication is writing, or you're an audio podcaster putting things in a video format is very powerful and even eliminated competition. Because most people are afraid to do it. They're afraid they don't look good enough or their hair isn't good enough or they're looking fat, all of these things that no one else really cares about. That's why I believe have a video first mentality regardless of everything else you're doing, because it cuts through the clutter. That's why anything on my website in text I put it in a video format to constantly amazed how many people don't do that.
I see businesses where their whole focus is on video helping people with video presentations, and everything on their website is text. Because everybody in the company is afraid to be on camera. Don't be like that. Put your face out there. Speak. It cut through the competition.
