I just talked about daily habits. Why are they so important? It's because when something is a habit, you just do it and it doesn't require motivation. There's only so much motivation so much willpower, you can pull up and use each day before it's gone. That's the beauty of a daily habit. You and I both have a habit of breathing all day long.
We'd love to get motivated to breathe, we just do it. You probably have a habit of drinking water or something every day. You don't have to tell yourself, boy, I need to drink something today. You're just going to drink because you get thirsty and you drink something. It doesn't require a lot of motivation. And that's a separate issue of motivating yourself to get off soft drinks and to drink water or something healthy.
But the basic act of drinking when you're thirsty doesn't require motivation. Jerry Seinfeld writes a new joke every day at this stage. It doesn't require a lot of motivation. It's Just a habit. When I first started flossing my teeth many years ago, it did require motivation. I've now I've done it every single day for so many years.
It doesn't require any motivate I just do it. I'm just not going to go to bed until I floss my teeth and brushed and use the Waterpik. And everything. I don't have to think about it really. I don't want to say, wow, I mean, muster up my willpower to floss my teeth today, you know, it's a habit. That is the beauty of habits and that's what productive people realize.
They figure out what are the goals they're trying to achieve? What habits we'll get them at least a tiny little bit closer, every day. They get over the initial hump of meeting motivation to do the habit, but then it becomes a habit and that's where success kicks in. So that's the real beauty of habit is it eliminates the need. need to have this motivation which I think is highly overrated as a way of getting you to be productive.
