Should you look at one friendly person in the audience when giving a presentation? No. You need to look at every single individual for a full thought a couple sentences and then move to the next person, have a private conversation with that person for a full thought. And then another person. Most of the time when we're giving presentations, there's gonna be fewer than 50 people in the room. You're talking for 10 minutes or so you can give every single person in the room.
Individualized, eye contact. That's the thing to do. If you just look at the friendly face, everyone else now has an excuse to do this. That's not good.
