Shopping. Okay, so you're not going to like this some of you may be offended, I apologize and those of you in the retail industry are really not going to like this. productive people don't spend time shopping, they just don't shop. It makes as much sense as having cows in your backyard to make milk. It's just not a rational use of time and an era of computers and the Internet. Of course there are exceptions.
If you want a great meal that you're going to cook from home and you enjoy cooking and you want to pick out the fresh vegetables and food. Yes, go to a local market and get it. But by and large, most things you need in life for your home, for your office, your clothes, etc. You can buy with one click online and not have to get up out of your chair. And yes, I did say one clip I am a fan of Amazon and I spent 10s of thousands of dollars a year on Amazon one click. You might not like Amazon, I'm not asking you to use Amazon and I'm not an affiliate, okay?
But for so many things in life to take the time to get out of your chair, leave your office or home, get in a car, drive to a mall or a store, find a parking space, get out, go buy that pack of batteries, or buy that roll of paper towels, then stand in line. Then have to pull out cash or credit card pay, then try to remember where your car's parked. Get in the car, drive home and this assumes Of course, you don't get in a car crash, you don't get towed. You don't get a parking ticket. You're doing all that even if Amazon charged me two or three times what I pay at the store, it would still be worth the fact that it's typically less expensive. than what I get in a store is icing on the cake.
So too many people use shopping is just an excuse to get out of the house or get out of the office. And they don't really love it if it's your passion if it creates such great joy for you, then by all means shop make that your prime hobby. But for so many people that's not it. It's just feel like oh, I gotta get this and here's my list of things and I got to get the salt for the driveway when it snows I know, you know. You can buy it on line. And yes, is there some environmental concern of the package commit?
Yes, but you're saving on not driving somewhere to pick it up yourself. So I'm asking you to be highly highly selective. I spent virtually no time in trouble. shopping malls and less I'm specifically going out to dinner with my family. And then we want to stretch our legs before after we'll walk around. And these days, pretty much every store is empty other than the Apple Store.
So I'm asking you be selective. You want to do grocery shopping because you want to inspect your vegetables. That's fine. Although even there in many cities around the world, you can get great fresh produce delivered to your house or your apartment. That's not great. You send it back and you're not charged.
So even that highly questionable as a use of your time. Again, no one manages time no one saves time we simply decide how are we going to spend time pretty confident you're not going to be on your deathbed saying wow, I really wish I'd spent more time shopping, going to stores waiting in lines looking for parking spaces up pretty confident. That's not what you're going to be saying on your deathbed. I know it's not what I'm going to be saying. So my challenge to you is ask yourself every time you need something, do you need it this second? Because again, I apologize.
I sound like an Amazon spokesperson, I'm not. But they can deliver everything to you in two days. If you're a member of prime, at least in my part of the world, how many things do you really need faster than in two days. And if you do a little planning order, two days in advance, look, everybody has to go to the store. Occasionally I get it. I do too.
But the less time you spend shopping, the more time you can spend doing one of two things. Number one, doing something you're good at that you enjoy. That helps other people and yourself your main area productivity or number two, doing something that is truly fun and rich. enjoyable for you.
