Are you ready for a bargain? This next lecture includes two lectures for the price of one. The first lecture is on the absolute greatest, most effective productivity tool created in the history of humankind. The second lecture is on the absolute worst, most destructive tool ever created to impede your productivity as a human being. I'm talking about of course, the same thing, the cell phone. The cell phone is the greatest tool ever, when used properly, to be able to communicate with people anywhere in the world, to be your own mini TV studio, to be a part of podcast to access more than 1 million books at absolutely no charge to access the information you need to answer almost any question in the world.

It's all right here to have the super computing hours, far greater than what the Apollo astronauts and everyone at NASA had to send a rocket to the moon, all right here in your fingertips. And in many parts of the world, you can get them for less than $10. So I love cell phones for creating productivity. These days, I find I can be out for a stroll or just sitting on a park bench. And I can go through all my morning work just by dictating answers to emails, questions from students. critiques of students video right here in my cell phone.

I don't even have to travel with a laptop or iPad if I don't want to. I can be researching my next course or my next book because I can quickly download 10 books on Amazon Kindle right here or go to Google Play and get up to a million books at absolutely no charge. This can be the greatest schoolhouse in the history of the world. You can become an Absolute expert on thousands of subjects when you research it the right way on Amazon on Google, Wikipedia, YouTube videos, online courses on this platform and others. It's all right here. So it's, it's just the most exciting productivity tool ever.

When used correctly the flip side this is the worst thing that's ever been created for productivity because it's so easy to let me check my email every two seconds. Let me check my Facebook status. Oh my god, it's been 3.2 seconds. I didn't get 27 likes for my latest post have a dumb picture I made. Let me check the latest cartoon. Let me check the latest silly YouTube video of a cat falling on a banana peel.

There's never been more on opportunities to divert your attention to waste time. Whether your advice is video games, pornography, dirty limericks, whatever, if I don't know why I'm coming up with that those are not my choice. It's whatever your choice is. It's all right here and it's here for you instantly for free as long as you have a cell phone and some internet connection. So that's the real problems. So much of being a productive human being, I believe in the modern era, is simply about learning.

Some ability for self regulation, self control, because if you let it This can take you down a dark, dark path that will absolutely rot your brain. When used correctly, this can make you one of the most renowned respect experts in the world. in almost any field, you can go deeper and deeper and deeper and access the greatest thinkers in any industry right here. All get almost all of it is free. All it requires is focus. So this tool helps you focus on good or bad, productive, non productive.

Now you can do both obviously, everybody likes a chuckle. Everybody likes a laugh occasionally. It's all about proportion. If you want to be productive, you're going to have to learn how to use this the right way. I'll tell you what I use the most, for example, ways I don't ever drive anywhere without using the Google App ways it helps me avoid massive amounts of time wasted getting in traffic jams. That's an I am not the world's greatest Tech, app developer or user or consumer or reviewer.

So this is not in any way any way meant to create a complete list of things. But I use Amazon I do use YouTube but I'm not watching entertaining videos during the day. I'm often watching other communication experts and productivity experts what they're doing so I can continue learning from them. podcast, there's just so much information you can learn on any industry you care about or any hobby by listening to podcast again, they're all free. I highly recommend that now. What do you try to avoid?

What I try to avoid are the social media apps because it's just too tempting. every spare second to look at it. lunchtime, taking a break restrooms it is just easy to get sucked back in. Same with news sites. I want to have a extra work, if I want to go to Facebook, I don't have it on here I make myself have to type it in. That reduces the chances that I'm going to go to it during the day, I do go to Facebook every day.

But I try to limit it to just two relatively quick hop ends and hop outs during the day. And that reduces the chances I'm just going to waste 10 1520 minutes in the middle of what otherwise would be a productive day. So I'm asking you right now to do an audit of your cell phone. Write down every app you have on your cell phone, and then try to put in a category of what's most useful helps save time, what's not useful and what wastes time. I don't keep a Twitter app on it. I don't keep a LinkedIn app on here.

I go to those sites every day. But I go to those on a PC where I know I'm going to try to hop in and hop out in less than five minute. So that's your homework assignment Now, put in the q&a section, the apps you use, which ones do you think really save you time? Which ones waste your time? Which ones are you willing to delete? That's my other challenge to delete at least one app on your cell phone that currently is robbing you of productivity.
