Chances are when you are creating your product when you are being productive, you need to be at a desk now if you're a sculptor that might not apply, but you still might have a desk to do other things and other planning. I want you to give some thought to your desk. There's a lot of different schools of thought these days about how you're killing yourself. If you're not standing the whole time sitting at a desk is the worst thing. There are people who have treadmill desk where you're walking the whole time, there are people who have bicycle desk where you're running a bicycle the whole time. Let me just say I'm skeptical about those things.
The one thing I have found about highly productive people is they tend not to chase fads. And I do see a lot of these things as far as their gimmicks. I have yet to go into anyone's office and see that they were walking on a treadmill and typing and working. And a year later, they're still doing that. These tend to be things we See, we get all excited the hype sounds great. We try it for a week or two.
And then we give up. And I confess I've tried not fads for desk but I've tried fads for exercise equipment and stuff. And it's, it's always the same, it seems great. But two weeks later, you'll never ever use it again. So all you've done is waste time, waste money, and now you've got some clutter to throw away. I do know some people who do use standing desk and have used them for more than a year so I won't discount that.
I like to use a standing desk for a lot of what I do when I'm making videos because a huge part of my business model is making videos and I find it easier to be standing I can gesture I can move it's more like what you're doing in a speech. So I am a fan of standing there but when it comes to sitting down reading email, writing a memo looking at stuff on The Internet. I gotta tell you, I'm just not comfortable standing. And I'm certainly not comfortable walking and standing and doing that. I do think that very few people can really do that on a long term. Now there are times when I may do readings, certainly I will watch videos that are work related.
While on a treadmill. That's an easy thing to do. But as far as the main place where you're doing work, I still think sitting down is what works best for me. If you can do it standing power to you. My advice is figure out what works for you. Regardless of whether you're sitting and standing.
You should be getting up taking breaks, walking around and getting other exercise in different parts of your day. But figure out what is going to be the most comfortable work environment for you to do your most important work. You don't want to be uncomfortable. You don't want to let an uncomfortable chair, destroy your productivity. So make sure it works for you.
