Creative, productive people like to work in environments that are beautiful and foster creativity that aren't just drab. Now there's a lot of mockery of all the.com startups that had the ping pong tables and the beanbags and the foosball tables. But many people go too far the other direction. And they have a plain ugly office, ugly for us lights, drab file cabinets, ugly furniture, and they're trying to create something lasting, perhaps a beauty or significance. Here in an ugly environment. It's very difficult to create things of beauty or to create things that fascinate you.
So I do think it's important that you give real thought to your work environment, especially those of you who work from home now because it's so easy to say well, I just want to Save money. And I got this tiny little corner in the bedroom and there's clothes everywhere and there's nothing I can do. You do have more control than you think now. It doesn't necessarily require a lot of money. You can be incredibly poor, live in New York City and go to work at the New York City Public Library. And it's a beautiful majestic building.
And you just hear vibes and feel vibes from some of the greatest intellection writers in the world who have been there and work there. I still go to the New York City Library from time to time for weeks when I'm in New York, to seek inspiration. And it's where I write and also do mundane tasks like send email. It's just a beautiful surrounding, regardless of where you are in your career, and where you are and your economic status. If you give some thought to it. You can make your work environment more pleasant if you have a little money Get a more comfortable chair than just the cheapest office chair possible do a little decoration.
Now my office isn't incredibly decorated. And I have a lot of whiteboards on the wall for drawing as I mentioned to you, but I do keep it clean, it is spacious. And I make sure to get myself a lot of variety. When I start work in the morning. I'm typically out on a deck or I'm on the porch or a patio, or outside in different places, or I may be in the great room, I could be in a number of rooms inside or outside. It gives me variety.
And if I want to see outdoor trees or pond, I can see those things. And it just makes me feel good to see things of beauty whether it's inside or outside. I recommend that you do the same now. Different people have different things that motivate them that they perceive as beautiful but if it's an other drab office, ugly lighting that can have an impact on your productivity. Not having sunlight can have an impact on your productivity. For several years in midtown Manhattan, I had a TV studio and training facility and I had no lights.
And after a while you do start to feel like a mole person. So I am a big fan of getting some natural sunlight. In a day like this when I'm making lots and lots of videos, I am in a closed studio where there is no lighting, but I'm very careful. every half an hour to leave, I'll go outside I'll get some fresh air. I'll see some trees out here some birds so it gives from raggedy. When you're trying to come up with an environment for yourself to work in to be most productive.
