Successful people have goals, highly specific goals. You've heard this. It's not exactly profound. I'm not the first person to say this. And yet so many people drift through life with just sort of vague, fuzzy notions of, I want to be rich or I wish life were easier or I wish I could just sit in the pool all day long and sip champagne. Those aren't goals.
Those are wishes productive people realize the difference between a wish and a goal. Now, there's all sorts of experts out there who have specific names and titles and acronyms for goals. It's got to be a SMART goal, or it has to be one of the Google advisors goals has a whole new book on how his name for his goals is so special. A lot of nonsense out there about goals. Goals need to be specific. You need to put them in priority because Not all goals are the same.
You need to have timetables and goal and specific calendar goals for your goals. If you do that, you have a much better chance of succeeding. If you don't put dates attached, you probably won't succeed. If you have 200 goals all have equal importance, you're probably not going to succeed. A lot of different systems out there that all claim to be the one way I'm here to tell you there is no one way. But there is a way of failing and that is number one, not even having a goal.
Number two, not putting it down in a specific way, not writing it down, not giving yourself a timetable, not holding yourself accountable. If you make those mistakes, it's not gonna work. If you fulfill the criteria I mentioned. You can be successful and that way will make you more productive. And it will give you a sense of accomplishment to that you can reach your goals and be successful. So many people are not successful in part, because they never have goals in the first place.
You'll want to have goals, you have to think about it. No one can give you goals, you can have a parent tell you, you must be a doctor, you can have a spouse, so you got to make 10 times as much money. That's not really going to motivate you. You're gonna have to figure out from within, what are your goals unless you have someone standing over you with a whip or a gun? Ultimately, no one else can motivate you. It's got to be you.
