There's a lot of talk these days about what's your personal brand and internet gurus talking about branding you. A lot of that is nonsense. The idea that a nice logo or slogan is somehow going to help you. I'm very skeptical about that. But I do think the concept of branding is helpful for productive people because after all, what is a brand it's simply a consistency of experience delivered to the customer, you think of McDonald's, you know what the french fries are gonna taste like. anywhere in the world you go to you know, with a Big Mac will taste like you have a set of expectations and they're met every single time.

Same with Starbucks, go anywhere in the world, there may be minor differences, but by and large, you're gonna have the same experience the lighting is going to be nice. Generally, there's some chairs to sit in. The coffee is going to be fresh. You might not like the coffee but the coffee is going to be fresh. It's not going to be sitting in a pile. for three hours long and having that stale flavor, Starbucks has a consistent brand.

Productive people also worry about having a consistent brand. And I don't mean that they're gonna wear the same outfit every day, or have a nice logo. I mean, they show up on time, they start meetings on time, they end meetings on time. They deliver what they say they're going to deliver, and they show up for work every day when they say they're going to so to that extent, having a brand is extraordinarily important for a productive person because it's showing not just yourself that you're productive, it's showing everyone else, you work with everyone else around you. People you worked with a long time ago, people you might work with people who are thinking of working with you, that consistency of showing up doing whatever it is you do. is going to increase the odds that you have more opportunity.

For example, I've created more than 10,000 videos. Over the last dozen or so years since YouTube's been around. But I've done videos for more than 30 years. There's no one video that just brings in tons of clients and money for me. But I do know over the years that many clients first started searching for someone like they, they would fish around YouTube websites, other places, and they looked at a lot of my videos over the course of six months, sometimes a couple of years. before they ever called me it was that consistency of being productive in that particular form of output.
