Productive people commit to a very specific ending of their work day. It could be 2pm it could be 8pm. But they have a time where they know almost like the Fred Flintstone character from the 1960s cartoon there punching that clock and yabba dabba Doo they're out of there. I try to do this myself and those of you who work for home as I do, this can be a particular challenge because when you work from home, you can always work you can work from 5am till midnight, if you let yourself do that, the most productive people don't do that they give themselves a very specific set ending time because that actually makes you more productive the time when you are working. Also, when you know you have a set ending time, it means you can have dinner plans with a spouse, family friends, it means you can go to a movie, you can go to a show, you can go to a concert You can actually live life, you can actually experience joy, you can spend time with your family.
You can't do it. If you just say, Look, my number one goal is work. And my number one goal is higher productivity at the end of the month. So let me not schedule anything in my social life and let me just work till I collapse at 11 o'clock at night. That's not what really productive people do. That is what people do who burn out and end up not being able to work for six months because they're suffering chronic depression.
Give yourself a specific time for finishing work each day. I try to finish work by 4pm each day so I can do other things more exercise more fun. Today, for me is a specific day we're having an even bigger assignment. today. I'm making 100 videos for this course. But I'm not going to be here at midnight or 10pm.
I'm going to commit to Finishing by 5pm if I tell myself that's all the time I have, I will do it. And then at five I have other plans for exercise fun and family. You can do that too.
