One of the biggest, if not the biggest decisions you're going to make is your area of specialty. What area Are you really going to focus on when it comes to selling your services or products. as a freelancer? Warren Buffett once famously said, it's better to be a middling money manager than the second or third best poet in the world. Now he was speaking in terms of how much money you make, you can in fact, be a below average money manager and make millions of dollars a year if you have enough money under management. Whereas some of the best poets in the world make almost nothing.
Now this isn't to tell you don't be a poet. It's not to say that poets are less valuable than money managers. But if your goal is to make money to find a niche where you can perhaps support yourself or even support a family, it is important to figure out is there a real marketplace for it Even with the poet example, I mean, you can make the case that m&m and some of the top rappers in the world are really poets. And they're making 10s, sometimes hundreds of millions of dollars a year. So again, in any niche, you look at it closely enough, there can be money there. But in general, you're better off focusing on something where there's a clearly established marketplace, one of the things I'd recommend you do is type in a one or two or three word phrase that represents what it is you do, and just see what shows up on Google.
If there's lots and lots of ads and hundreds of thousands or millions of websites, well, you know, there's consumer demand there. Certainly, I did that before I really specialized in what I do, like I type in media training. 50 sometimes 150 million websites come up, ads show up so I knew that was a good niche which by By the way, if you type that in now, you'll typically always see me on the first page within the top five. Also, as as well, we'll get to that later. But it's critically important you pick a niche. Don't just pick one you think, well, it's popular people like to have their money manage.
So I'll be a money manager. Well, no, that's not going to work. If you don't have a lot of expertise in money management, but there may be a range of things that you like that you're interested in that you have some skills on, you've got to focus on what is going to work in the marketplace as well. That's why you got to really look at is this a good market to enter?
