How do you consistently get better as a speaker? How do you not be one of these people who sort of plateaus you get to a B plus level but you're like that for the next 30 years. It's like a lot of skills in life. People who take one golf lesson once and golf once a year typically don't get that much better. People who take golf lessons and play golf, they do both of those each week. usually make some right now they might not get to the professional level, but they get better further along than someone who just does the golf once a year.
Same thing with public speaking. For starters, look for every opportunity you can to speak don't turn down speaking Opportunities. Next, always ask for feedback. Don't just ask someone what did you think? Ask them what did you remember from my speech? My presentation?
What did you take away? And really listen, try to figure out what I do well in this presentation, so I can use it in the next presentation what didn't work that I tried, so I'm not going to use it next time. And then look for your own public speaking role models. Watch TED Talks watch you to look at other speakers whether you love sports, or the arts or politics, look for people that you like and respect and learn from them. But also do the opposite look for people you don't respect but you know, they're good speakers and analyze what they do. So look for a talk radio host who has a political opinions, the exact opposite of yours.
Force yourself to listen to that person five minutes a week, you'll learn a lot about good communication. Find someone who is preaching a religion that is not your religion, you don't agree with what they're saying. But listen to them on TV, radio, analyze what they're doing, not the other tool, copy them, but so that you can learn from them and expand on your own toolkit of public speaking do that. do that consistently and you'll get better and better as a speaker.
