Productive people figure out what is the most effective learning style for them. Now, I do believe you should be eclectic. You should try all new things, try podcasts, try YouTube videos, try TED Talks, try audio books, and of course, read in every format. But it's simple. You got to figure out what works best for you. Now, I've been a podcaster.
I've listened to podcast. But if I'm honest with myself, I had to realize listening to audio is just not my preferred way of gaining information. I just find it too slow even if I speed it up, because if I'm going for a walk, I want to have complete uncluttered time, I don't want to hear anything. And if I do have time, specifically set aside to learn I want to be reading. Or I'd like to watch a TED talk video or a YouTube video. So audio kind of gets squeezed out from you which is odd when you think about it because I spent so many years of my life as a talk radio host and creating audio content.
But that's often the way it is. So my challenge to you is to really figure out how is it you like to learn best and then go deep in that. If you like podcast, you don't really like reading, maybe you unsubscribe to a lot of news sources in your RSS feed, or you stop going to their websites and you have more podcasts that you subscribe to, they're automatically put on your cell phone so you can listen at any time. Do you like Ted Talks? Well put the TED app on your phone in a prominent place where you can see it. So that's my challenge to you.
Now, how do you think of yourself? When it comes to your learning style? What format Do you enjoy the most for me it's very clear, print. Sound the goal text Number one, I do still read print in that one to two hours before bedtime and I don't want any electronic stimulation. But by and large I'm reading electronic texts that's my number one preferred format. Video is a somewhat distant number two for learning.
I do like video for entertainment. I like watching movies. But that's my hierarchy. What is it for you? How do you like to learn? It's important for you to realize that so you can go with your strengths.
Don't try to force yourself to read a lot if you really like watching video. Sir Richard Branson, wildly successful, successful entrepreneur has dyslexia. If you had dyslexia, audio or video are going to be better mediums for you than reading so you got to figure out what works for you. Think about it, and write down in the q&a section right now. What is your number one medium for learning, and then how would you put things in a hierarchy as far as reading text watching video, listening to audio or anything else
