Do you want to become smarter? Do you want to know more about your niche than your colleagues, your clients, your customers? Do you want to be on the cutting edge of your field? Well, there's a very simple way of doing it these days, and it didn't exist for most of human history. It's called read free books. every spare second you have on your cell phone.
And most time it costs nothing. You can go to Google Play, there are more than a million books. Some of them great that you can get for free and you can read it on your cell phone. We all have free time when we are waiting for a bus or a train commuting, eating lunch. What most of us do we fill our minds with clutter reading garbage news and celebrity nonsense. You can be reading books about areas of interest to you could be about your existing profession, your career subjects you work on.
It could be about your next career. What do you want to do after your current career? If you spend every waking second that's free, and that's not busy doing other stuff. Instead of looking at news and celebrity gossip on your phone or a tablet, reading books, you can get much more substance. Your brain will grow, you'll learn more, and you will develop as a person you will develop your expertise and you'll be more useful to people. Typically, this means you can charge more you can ask for raises you can get hired more, you create more value because you know more.
Now, admittedly, it's easy to get out of this habit and to go back to looking at Facebook and don't do it. Anytime I'm doing a course on a new subject What's the first thing I do? I get every book on the subject for free on Google Play. Another great resource and it cost a tiny little bit I'm not asking for any Commission's here, believe me, I'm not selling anything. But amazon kindle unlimited program for, I believe it's less than 10 bucks a month, you have unlimited access to another million books. And you can check out 10 at a time.
A lot of these books are short. So if you have an interest in a new topic that's related to your field, just quickly, check out 10 books, skim through them, read them, delete them and get another 10 books and you can read 50 books on virtually any subject in the world. And that's going to put you in probably the top percent top 1% of experts on that subject just by reading 50 bucks. And you can do that just in a daily commute in a month. If you switch over from reading garbage to reading actual books, the beauty of books even a bad book is it tends to be focused. It tends to go more in depth than just an article.
It tends to be about something real and not just the ephemera of the news. That's why I'm a big fan of books as opposed to magazine articles, blog posts, there can be great ones. But books I do recommend that you read actual books, the most productive people in the world I find a lot of times time reading books, whether you are a fan of Bill Gates or Oprah they read dozens and dozens and dozens of books if not hundreds of books a year. You can do and these days it is free or near free.
