Before we actually do that. Let's take a look at the stories behind famous brand names. So the first one is tumbler Can you guess what that means? Tumblr is actually Sasol in Irish, which means in life in English, so it's representative for what it is where you share things from your life on this blogging platform. So let's take a look at the next one.
Samsung. Well, this is a evolution of their logo. And as you can see, there are a few similarities between the first four ones, let's take a look what they actually mean. So Sam means three. Sung means stars in Korean. So it basically means three stars.
But it actually means big and powerful. The Hunger some symbol means big and powerful. Next one, Acer. Well, this is sort of a good one because they is you know, they build laptops, and some of them are very thin and light. So Acer means sharp, acute, Abel and facil in Latin. This is an interesting one.
This is what I was shocked when I was researching this myself. So canon wasn't originally called canon It was called quantum okay with a K and a W The gentleman you see there, gorya Yoshida was one of the founders of quantum. And it actually stood for the Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. And it was also representative of what they were striving for, which was excellence in camera technology and optics. Next up, we got Sanyo, which again, is known for its camera equipment right now. But they used to pretty much build anything from radios to high tech toys.
And Sanyo means three oceans and refer to the Atlantic Pacific and the Indian Ocean. And what that meant was that they were thinking about how their products would be spread around the world. a boon to the Linux distribution. Well, this is a Zulu word. That means Humanity to others, which is interesting. Yahoo.
Well Yahoo has an interesting story. The founders behind it had a different name, but they really enjoyed Jonathan Swift's good for travels. So they named it after that which is an acronym for yet another hierarchical officious Oracle. But they also enjoyed the definition of a Yahoo, which was rude and unsophisticated IKEA. IKEA is sometimes hard to pronounce, but what it actually means well, the eye and the K stands for the initials for Ingvar Kamprad which was the founder of the company. Then the E stands for m tarried the farm where he was living, and then the A was comrades home village This is Siri.
So Siri, we now know it as Apple's voice technology, but it was actually a company that they purchased. And Siri means beautiful woman who leads you to victory in Norwegian. But there's also an interesting side story one of the developers was expecting a child with his a wife. And if it would have been a girl, they would have named it Siri. But it was a voice of the name that Marcus but they named the company Siri. So the last one is a Lego.
Lego is a toy manufacturer and what they what they stand for well, like, like got in Danish is play well in English. And let's finish this video with one question.
