Welcome to this first video. And this time we will be talking about meetings and planning activities. So I don't want you to let meetings make you less productive. So let's have a look at how to be more productive in meetings and planning activities. So number one would be stand up in meetings. Now, this is important because there's been a study that has shown that about 44%.
You can be more productive, about 44% more productive if you stand up in meetings. Now, why does that happen? Well, meetings tend to be shorter, when people are somewhat less comfortable and people sit down to think about right when people sit down in chairs and and they have maybe something to drink or something to eat. They get familiar with each other. Maybe there's the room Hear it and you start to get a little bit tired and you need like something to drink or a coffee to recover. And all of these things just tend to lengthen the duration of that meeting.
And obviously, what you want to do is get out of it faster, right? So, you should you should try standing up in meetings. Number two would be ask direct questions. Now, this is important because asking things like, what do you want to achieve? Or what will the optimal outlook, be like, will force people to think not just in terms of oil, this is a meeting and we will talk about meeting things and someone needs to take notes and let's just go through the paces of our table of contents for this meeting, and nothing should nothing should go wrong, if we do those things, but that is obviously our Wrong. So try to ask direct questions.
So you get to the point of faster. Number three would be to fire off some personal emails, right? These might seem like you're cheating a bit, because you're in a professional environment, and you shouldn't be seen sending personal emails and the time. But if you do have your laptop with you, or a smartphone, you can think about some emails that you've wanted to send for a while, and you just didn't find the time to that. There are specific times obviously, during the meeting, when you could do that, let's say someone's just setting up their projector, or just running through the list of things that you'll be talking about in that meeting. And those are basically the ways the moments where you can Get back to your emails and actually be a little bit productive during that time and not feel like the meaning is taking up all of your time.
Number four would be to brush up on your drawings. Now. You don't have to be the next Frank Miller or Stanley or all of those great comic book creators to just work on your drawings. Now this could be a drawings of the people in the meeting could be drawings of mock ups that you could be doing of an app that you might be designing. You could also be thinking about architectural things. So it really depends on your meaning or planning activity.
You can also work on mind maps, right? Just start with a simple word in the middle and then branch out from that. You can just look for ways to feel more creative and be more productive in a meeting that, obviously, it has moments where you might feel like it's just sucking up your time instead of doing something useful for you. Number five would be to start a blog. Now, starting a blog might seem like something that would take a lot of time. But you might go at it from a different standpoint, looking at the free blog platforms like this is tap or WordPress or blogspot.
You can see that it's fairly easy takes just a few minutes to create a new blog. And the team of the blog could be meetings, right? There's been a few examples of people that have worked in meetings or have talked about it. I think one of the books is called How to appear smarter in meetings, which is a funny and interesting interesting title. And that came about just a person sort of getting tired of the regular meetings and deciding that they were looking for for something else, or starting a blog could be something that's making you more productive within a meeting. Number six would be to test the audio recording apps on your iPhone or on your Android phone, or if you've got a Windows Phone, you can also try them on your laptop.
Obviously, that could be a little less conspicuous, since you would need a sort of an external mic if you don't want to use the one attach to your webcam if you have one. But testing different recording apps could make you more productive, because you sort of do something that might help you in your professional or personal life. So it won't just be something that you're doing for that meeting. And there are probably 10s or hundreds It's an audio recording apps. And I've used this method successfully. And I found that Indeed, indeed, there is a difference between the apps, some record uncompressed audio, which is better, others do a better job at providing you with a clean interface.
So just test these recording apps for yourself and see where you end up with. Number seven, number seven, the seventh way to be more productive in a meeting or a planning activity is to create a presentation about your meeting. So this is somewhat of a meta activity since you're in a meeting and you're creating a presentation about the meaning. Now, this could be seen as productive even by the people in your actual meeting. Now, how how could that How could that happen? Well, if you think about it, people after meetings would require some sort of a, some sort of a shortened version of of the meeting itself.
So you could do a simple way of just writing a few things down and adding a few images. And by the end of the meaning, hawala, you've already got a presentation ready to go that you can ascend to your fellow colleagues. Number eight is to learn a new language. Now, this might be tricky at first, but once you start to work with a few awards here and there, and try to try to incorporate them in your language or just try to listen to them or read them on your laptop or smartphone or tractors translate the words that colleagues are talking are saying in a new language, then you will go a long way. Number nine, is to visualize the meaning from the outside. Now what do I mean by that?
That means that try to look at the meaning with sort of objective eyes in a first person does the meanings symfon does the meaning seem organized to all the people get all of the information that is needed. So visualizing the meeting might help you actually improve those meanings for you and our people. And number 10. The last way to be more productive in a meeting or playing activity is to put a new planner app to the test. Now, that might mean sending a request for the next meeting for four people or actually using a planner app to look at all of the things that you've discussed in the specific meaning and putting them in a organized fashion in organized format. So thanks for watching this video.
This was the number one video and I'll see you in the next one.
