Okay, welcome to lesson number 16, the quickening. Now this is the introduction and the first step in the DeCosta micro step method. And my intention during this lesson is to describe the feeling because when I first stumbled across most of my stuff, it was, quite frankly by accident. And it was something that happened inside of my body was a physiological response. And so it's it's difficult to try to describe what is happening in the physiology of my body to you so as we start to get into and practice The dirt goes to Microsoft, you'll find out that it's actually very, very simple. And once you learn it, you will wonder why they haven't haven't.
You know, haven't I learned this before? Why didn't you know anybody tell me about this before. But you know, quite frankly, I only learned it when I was 49 years old, and I'm about to turn 51 right now. And so it took me an entire lifetime and I went through so many different experiences in my life, exhibiting anxiety and feeling anxiety and, and going through those stages and you know, where I would have different panic attacks, and, you know, depression in my life, and certainly a tremendous amount of stress, even if I could go back now, through all the times when I was in the military or all the time, so they did sports or running my own companies. I wish that I would have realized especially how simple this is, but I'm going to try to relate this story and give you this analogy. So that both men and women could understand what I'm talking about.
And if you've never experienced exactly what I'm talking about, at least I want to tell you the story well enough that you can relate to it. Now when I feel anxiety, you know, obviously I get, you know, sweaty palms, my heartbeat. But what really affects me the most is I feel inside my body very loose and very watery. And I, it's a feeling definitely, that's anti confidence. And I think that most people who are exhibiting or feeling or having a panic attack, you could definitely agree with me that in that moment, you're not confident and you feel like everything's falling apart. Well, that's the feeling that I have.
Some will take you back to when I was in high school. I was in high school I played running back and a receiver at times. And that position sometimes caused a lot of pain or I felt a lot of pain, especially when the quarterback would throw the football to me. You had to reach your hands up high. what you were doing was you were exposing your rib cage and exposing your body. Well, the other player that is about ready to talk to you, sometimes they're going as fast as they can, and they're not going to be very nice about it.
And so they're going to tackle you and sometimes their helmet and their shoulder pads hit you right in the ribs. And there have been many times where when that happens, you know, you catch the ball and you immediately try to bring your arms back down to protect yourself and run away or run towards the football. But there are many, many times and those of you who know what I'm talking about where you're going to get, I am very painful, it is not going to fill you Good. Well, the quarterback typically wears what is called a rib cage girdle. And what that is, is it's an additional set of padding. And that padding is like a girl that wraps around your rib cage and wraps around your belly and use cinch it up.
Now, the padding in itself is kind of like a foam and it is well it is a foam. So it will allow you to expand your breath a little bit, but if you put it in really tight, it does kind of constrict your breathing. And I've never worn a girl girdle or any super, super tight clothing that I know that a lot of girls wear. And so maybe this would be the relatable the relatable type of, of analogy. And so anyway, one particular football game I had I had been Beat up that week in football practice and my ribs were hurting. And in fact, I have had several broken ribs in my childhood.
So that particular area was always been a little bit sensitive to me. And so the quarterback was obviously a very good friend of mine. And he actually kind of hated it, because it kind of restricted his mobility in throwing football. And on this particular game, he didn't want to wear it. So as he was getting dressed right by me, and I was getting dressed, I said, Hey, do you mind if I wear that ribcage guard or the rim guard? And he said, No, I don't care.
Now, we came from a small high school so there wasn't a ton of money. I don't know why we didn't have more of these but this was the very first time that I had ever even put one on. So as I put it on, and I pulled the laces very, very tight, I could steal it just kind of, you know, just kind of sucking into my chest and Quite frankly, it felt good. And I kind of bang my side. And normally if I would have done that without the rib cage it just even the light tap like that would have been painful. So what I had done instead is I had got some Ace bandages, and I was wrapping Ace bandages around my ribs, because I thought that that would kind of help me.
But the problem is with my Ace bandages, as soon as I would run, you know, they would kind of lay down on my belly and they didn't really do anything. But this particular rib cage guard, you know, had shoulder harnesses so it wouldn't fall down. Well, anyway, the game started and the very first pass that I received, I got hit right in the ribs. Fill it, in fact, it felt amazing. And so what that did is that I got up and expecting I was going to her and it didn't. And that particular game, I had so much more confidence and I went out there and I had one of the best games of my high school career.
And on that particular day, quite frankly, I won the player of the week. And I contribute that primarily because my confidence level, and my thinking process was, I did not have to worry about getting hit and getting hurt. And so I started thinking, Why in the world is is why don't we all have this particular route case? did this for me. So then what happened is we were kind of at the end of the season, I went and talked to my football coach about this and I said, Can I have one? And he said, Well, you would have to buy one yourself because there isn't any extra.
There's only one and that's for the quarterback. And then, you know, he kind of got a little upset that the quarterback actually didn't wear that particular day. But anyways, the experience taught me something. The experience taught me that my confidence level was in direct proportion to how my body felt. And if I felt that my body didn't hurt or wasn't going to get hurt, I was a little bit more confident. And this kind of relayed into other factors later in my life.
When I started to learn how to water ski and do some water sport sports, I always wore some risk protection and hip protection. And that was even back in the days where it wasn't mandatory to wear different life preservers. But they did that because it gave me the confidence. So that is the feeling that I want you to understand as we start to walk through the process. And when I started to learn the the triggers to Microsoft process, that feeling of anxiety that I have is all that loosey goosey exam, the lottery incentive and I don't feel very confident at all. And in fact, when it happened to me, and I had that feeling that it just went inside of my In just tightening up, it gave me that confidence in the very first time that I did Vidya goes to Microsoft process, and I did it on, again kind of accident.
I recalled that that particular day, and it changed my entire situation. And I started to realize that I could link my body and my thought process together. So go ahead and fill out your workbook. And I will see you in the next lesson where we're going to actually start to practice this feeling and practice the triggers to micro step. And I hope that I was able to describe the feeling that I had in my body and giving you the competence so that you can experience the exact same thing and it will change your life forever. It has done exactly that for me.
So we'll see in the next lesson.
