Okay, here we go lesson number five, this is going to be kind of a fun one. This is a tribute to all of my brothers and sisters who have served in the military, and all of the families and those who support those people who bravely give their lives in and service for us. And we're going to call this lesson number five Special Forces teams, how fast and Charlie. Now, I want you to use the power of your imagination during this one. And so you don't need to necessarily take a lot of notes. Just go ahead and sit back and relax.

If you're that person that does need to take a lot of notes, don't worry about it for a few minutes. It is my intention to take you on an amazing journey within the human body. All right, our journey starts with you walking down the street, and it's a street that you're very familiar with. So you know the way and perhaps you know, it's a street in your old neighborhood where you grew up, or a street where you currently live. As you're strolling along. You notice how warm and sunny The weather is to do to do the birds are chirping, the squirrels are playing, and you hear kids laughing in the distance and it's a beautiful day you think.

Now you're not in a rush. There's no particular place that you have to be. You're just enjoying yourself. And as you approach a familiar corner, you turn and sitting right in front of your path is a large dog, and you've never seen it before. He looks so scared immediately that the large dog starts to bark, and stands that they're ready to attack. defend his territory, and instantly and without hesitation or conscious control on your part.

The first thing that happens is an alarm. I mean, it goes off inside of what is called your hypo thalamus, which is located at the top of the primal brain. Now this is a signal and it's a signal. All hands on deck is the body's Emergency Broadcast System has just been activated. Danger threat alert, danger threat alert. Now, the hypothalamus is likey person sitting on top of a watchtower just waiting and looking for a threat.

And when it notices a threat, it rings the bell. Now this amazing alarm system sends a signal down your spine and alert your adrenal glands. So where are your adrenal glands? Well, your adrenals hang out on top of your kidneys. When you were a little kid, did you ever get so scared you peed your pants? Or maybe you saw somebody when they got scared and they peed their pants?

Well, this is why if you have a sponge full of water, and yes squeeze them, this is what happens. So the adrenal glands are like the command center for your special forces. And when the alarm goes off in the hypothalamus and send a signal to the the adrenal gland, these special forces are alerted and they have a mission. Their mission is to protect you now, to primary teams are immediately mobilized. The members of the special forces are called hormones. We're going to call them Alpha team, adrenaline, and the support forces and Charlie team cortisol.

Now the job of Alpha Team adrenaline is to immediately increase your heart rate and boost your energy supply. By elevating your blood pressure. Now some people love this feeling of, of the increase of adrenaline. probably heard of some people call it an adrenaline junkie. But this is alpha team at work and they love power. Hmm.

It's kind of interesting. I chose the word alpha for this one. All right, anyways, Charlie team. Now, Charlie team, Corazon is responsible for our primary stress hormones. Now, Charlie team cortisol has two major functions. The first part of Charlie team goes to the liver.

And what it starts to do is, is change the glycogen into glucose. And this allows us to flood our bloodstream. And the reason why is they have to get as much glucose to the brain as quickly as possible because it's the brain that primal brain, which is the body's information command center, and if it doesn't function properly, guess what We're dead when there's a threat. Now, in addition part of Charlie team cortisol is going to go shut down all non essential body functions. Now, don't worry if that body function isn't being used to get us out of the threat, it's not going to work very good. But eventually, alpha and Charlie team once they are operating at full power and the threat is gone, things are gonna hopefully turn normal and don't worry that libido will come back but the alarm bells will start bringing in our body can go into recovery.

Okay, hopefully who threat is over we could say I'm glad that that does. zoner was right there and took him away. Now I can feel better. But wait. Our body is now full of these hyped up Special Forces hormones. So you saved yourself self.

I didn't have to fight. I didn't run away. But now I have all these hormones in me that want to do something. So what do you do? Well, here are some options that you could think about. Hopefully, you could say, I've been eating really clean in a very, very healthy diet.

Not much junk food or soda pop for me. Hmm, well, that's an iffy one for most of us. Well, we could go work out. That's a good option. But not many people do that though. Plus, I've actually heard that intense exercises increases cortisol levels, and I'm actually trying to release them and not get more.

Or I could practice some yoga and do some deep breathing techniques. But some of us don't do that either. So if it's not really your habit, you're not much of a yoga person. That's really not gonna be your solution. You could go relax, but Gosh darn it, it's hard to relax because one of my normal states is anxiety already. Now.

Now I got to worry about that. You could say, well, you could also think, well, I feel pretty tired. I felt like crashing a lot of people do crash after adrenaline rushes. But you know what, a lot of people who suffer from anxiety already have a hard time sleeping so that you know work. Alright, so what should you do? Well, if you live a life in constant stress or even too much stress, cortisol and other stress hormones can cause a lot of health problems.

Heart disease, insomnia, headaches, digestive problems, I mean, even low libido, who wants to live like that? The other thing is certainly an overload of cortisol is known to contribute to weight gain and obesity and you don't want that either. If you're a student and you're trying to get through school, it can affect your memory and your concentration. Now you got to suffer poor grades and worry about, you know, passing the next test or the next class. Well, this impairment only causes more and more stress on us both mentally and physically. All right, so let's go ahead review your workbook.

Make sure you complete your exercises and make sure you fill in the blanks and I will see you in the next class.
