Before we finish up the section on arrays, I want to talk about how you would convert a string to an array. There is a method that is a part of the object wrapper for strings that convert strings to arrays. Now why would you want to do that? Well, I've run into multiple situations where it can be very helpful. Let me just give you one. Let's say I was working with the URL of a particular page.

I retrieve that from the HTML page, and I needed to remove the query string. Now, as you may or may not know, the query string, the part that comes after the main URL is separated by a question mark. Well, a way to divide that URL into two parts are the query string and one in the URL and another is to split that string into an array. Using the question mark, and then the first part of the URL goes into position zero of the new array. The second part, the query string goes into position one. And then I can work with both of those separately.

That's one example. I've run into other situations as well. And let me first show you how you would go about doing this. So let me open up the console. And I'm going to create a simple string. Okay, here we have a string, just a couple of sentences.

This will allow allow us to illustrate what we're trying to do here. The method that is used to split a string into an array is called split. So str split. Now inside of the parentheses, I indicate what character I want to break on what character will be used as the separator. And the separator determines where the string is split up into different values that become a part of the new array. Let's say I did question mark here, like we were talking about.

Let's say I do it the right way and enclose it within quotes. So it knows what it is. Then we get back an array with two places in it, as mentioned, and notice that the character that you split on is no longer present. That's an important thing to remember with the split Because that can also be a way to remove characters from a string. I've used it for that purpose before. Alright, let's take a look at one more example.

Let's do a new array here. We're going to set that equal to this string we created split, and I'm going to split it on space. So now if we display the new array, it split on every word. So everywhere there was a space space it split. And notice the spaces are all removed, so they're no longer showing up. So that's a quick introduction to the split method of the string object wrapper.

It can be very helpful when you're trying to manipulate string values for certain purposes. Alright, let's move on.
