Styles, schools, artistic movements are important tools for historians and art historians.

They allow us to “fit” artists and their works in a systematic way, allowing comparative analyses between them, analyses of continuities, ruptures, innovation, or elements of permanence.

But some artists don’t let themselves get cataloged so easily. Such is the case of Edgar Degas.
