Alright, so now we're going to look at how you can create boards. boards are very similar to what they are in real life, where you can imagine a huge whiteboard in the office, and you use that to write things down, or Blackboard, or maybe a notice board. So in Trello, a board is digital, and it's meant to put all your tasks and organize your lists so that you can visually see your project. So you start with going to this button right here. Click on it and you'll find a bunch of options. But for now, let's go to create a new board.
You can give it a name. Let's say I'm called this. And then you can also select different kinds of backgrounds that comes free with the Trello account. You can also choose solid colors. And if you want more options, you can click on this icon here. You can see more.
Not that many options, but they'll do. It helps if you have a different color for a different project. Because usually you associate one board for one project and the human brain it's more attuned to graphics and visuals. So it really does help if you have color code. For your Trello boards. If you want to use the photos, you can upload your own unless you pay for the Trello subscription.
They do give some basic, they do give some stock photos. can see more here Next, quite a decent amount. I'm going to pick let's see this one. Don't worry too much about the board name, you can easily change it at any time by hovering over the board name here, click on it and rename it to wherever you want. One thing to bear in mind is that you can also select the visibility of your board. By default it's set to private so only you and team members that you invite into the board can see it.
Later on, we'll look at how we can set up teams in Trello. And this will make it easier for you to invite team members into your board. So for private, it's more to invite people that are not necessarily on your team. So you can imagine being able to collaborate with freelancers or contractors, and then you can remove them whenever you deem necessary. Lastly, there's also the public board setting. Now this one, a lot of companies use it.
Just to show off what they're doing. Sometimes they're showing off, you know, what's the next YouTube video that they're going to upload, maybe this next episode of the podcast. Some software companies use this to show the public that hey, we are working on features and suggestions that the community has given and Here's the progress for each of those. But I always recommend you go for private unless you have reasons to do that otherwise. So once you have your board set up, you can find other boards by clicking the board button again. And Trello.
Remember recent boards that you had. And if you notice, you can also hover on the board name and there'll be a star icon. This is to allow you to bookmark or save certain boards so that it's much faster for you to find them in the future. Now this is assuming that you have more than five boards and you're actively using Trello for many things, is a handy feature but I personally don't use it that much. You can Also access boards that has been closed. The reason is, maybe you want to reopen the board again, you don't want to completely remove something.
So think of this as a way to archive other boards that you no longer use, but you might want to refer to it in the future. You might notice that there's also a home icon here. And this is where tremolos so called landing page or home pages. Here the lists down all the boards that you have. And if you were to start one of the boards, there'll be a new category called start boards. So you can have quick access to your favorite boards here.
You can also go to the home. Once you have enough activities, there'll be a lot of things listed down here. And then for the teams, you can also create teams From here as well, which we will cover in the upcoming sections in this course. Another quick way to create boards is from here is a plus icon on the top right. But other than that, you're good to go. Ideally, one board represents one project.
There are some instances where people might use multiple boards, and they will dedicate one board that summarizes activities across all other boards. But we'll go slow and we'll start using the basic functionality. And the more common way to use Trello which is one board per project.
