So how do you stop saying, Ah, um, or like, you know, when you're giving a presentation, I have a very simple solution. I've used this for many, many years with clients all over the world. And I've created these little stickers you can create these at home when I have is the word um, are with the International Red, no sign, you know, no left hand turn, no parking, no hazardous waste, and I simply peel it off, you can and put it on their watch their cell phone, their laptop screen or all three. You can simply cut it out with scissors, get a red magic marker, you type the word first. Whatever it is, you say. And here's the thing.
It doesn't require any more work after that. All of us look at something dozens of times a day. I looked at my watch, you may look at yourself and whatever it is you look at this can stick In your brain, so what happens is, if you say, ah too often and you have the sticker that has the don't do that the international knows symbol, and it's on your watch or your cell phone. After a day, you've seen that don't say it image 20 times, he'll still say, ah, or, um, but you have this kind of the Homer Simpson moment where you become aware of it. You still have the problem though, after two or three days of constantly looking at this image. As you're about to say it, you'll almost catch the or the um, but it still comes out of your mouth.
But after a week of looking at the image, the image will come up in your brain before you say it. You can simply pause. Now you'll come across or confidence or comfortable, less cluttered and the problem will melt away. Now word of caution. Everybody says occasionally it's not the end of the world. I see clients who review a 20 minute speech they give and they said two arms.
And they're obsessed over that. Meanwhile, their speech was incredibly boring and everyone fell asleep. But they're worried about a couple of them. So, you've got to put this problem in perspective, most of us have far bigger problems. also realize some of those wildly successful speakers in the world. Say, and I'm all the time.
Bill O'Reilly, Martha Stewart, Geraldo Rivera, David Letterman, what do they all have in common? They make 10s of millions of dollars, sometimes that much a year. And they all say odd a lot.
