Ideally, we're seeing some progress, it's time to do another rehearsal and you guessed it. on video, I'm telling you right now, if you tell yourself well, we'll videotape the next one, let's just do a dry run, you're wasting valuable time you will get so much more value out of this by videotaping it and recording it. Trust me, this is all I do for the last 30 years, you're not going to get the same benefit. Talking it out loud as you would by talking out loud and video recording it and watching it. So it's time to do it. Again.
There's good news and bad news here. You should be seeing some improvement by now. So you're going to tape it, speak it out loud, tape it, watch it again. And if you really like it, if you think the whole thing gels it flows nicely each speaker stand on it. So guess what? You're ready to give the presentation.
However, if you're not completely satisfied with the entire presentation Need you to do it again. It's not about passing my test or some corporate communication policy test, it's about, at this point passing your test, I need all of you in the group, to be able to watch the video of this group presentation and say, Wow, if we can be half as good as that group, we're going to totally dominate this new business pitch, we're going to just be fantastic, be great. If we could even speak half as good. I would want to listen to those people. If that weren't me. That's got to be your response.
If you get to that point, you're going to be overwhelmed with confidence. And you're going to do a great job because let's face it, you've heard thousands of speeches in your own life and you've heard a lot of group presentations. You know, the bad stuff, you know, the boring stuff. So if you can actually watch your own video of the whole group presentation and you like it, that's pretty tall. Standard, that's a pretty high threshold. That's where you have to be.
Now, you may be there already. Great. Go relax. But if you're not keep practicing, I don't care how many times it may take you one more take, it may take you 30 takes, you are not ready to give this group presentation until you can look at the video, every minute of it and be happy with it. Because when you think about it, that's what you do when you're sending a text proposal or email. You don't send an email to an important client and say, You know what, I know the punctuation is all messed up in that last paragraph, but and you know, I tired of working let me just hit sand you wouldn't do that.
Well, why in the world would you give a presentation? If you haven't actually seen yourself, deliver it in a way that you think is great. So that's my challenge to you. Keep on practicing on video until you like what you see now. Let's get back to the real world for a minute what most organizations do when they're giving team presentations. They spend all of their time futzing with the PowerPoints.
Oh, let's change this bullet point, let's add this data point. Let's rearrange this. Let's move the logo from here to here. All of it a complete, utter waste of time that has zero impact on what the audience actually remembers. Again, if you're going to use PowerPoint, fine, I use PowerPoint all the time. If you're going to have one with lots and lots of text, I wouldn't recommend projecting it.
I'd hand it out or email it, but if you're gonna do it, you've got to put the PowerPoint to bed at least a few days before the presentation so you can spend your time speaking the presentation out loud practicing on video until you like it. Or you can do it most corporations do in most organizations is step two in the morning rearranging the deck Changing the slides at 845 in the morning for the 9am speech. If you do that, you are condemned to a disastrous group presentation. So focus on the rehearsal with video.
