Here we will look at a case study of crisis management. In 2010, an explosion on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico resulted in almost 5 million barrels of oil being released into the ocean. It was a huge environmental disaster that also cost the lives of 11 employees on the rig. bp, which was operating the rig had a slow and uncoordinated response in the immediate aftermath of the disaster, and ultimately lost a huge amount of brand value, not to mention many. In fact, BP was knocked off the index of the world's most valuable brands as a result of this crisis. And this is another more lighthearted case study, where we look at KFC, the first food chain which ran out of chicken at 900 of its UK stores.
