Welcome back, everyone. Now we're gonna get into connecting switches and devices. Council sounds kind of silly, but we got to do it anyway, right part of the certification, we got to know how to connect switches to devices. Alright. So that's right. Things not working today.

Can I think switches and devices, obviously there's a two step process physical activity and then switch configuration, you got to do your physical topology first. Once you get all your stuff connected, then you're going to go ahead and start doing your configurations like any network you've ever done in your life. You first run the cable, you crimp all your cables, you do your terminations, I should say terminate all your cables. All right, and then you start doing a configuration for the computers and the servers, switches, routers, all that good stuff. All right now cows will support various types of Ethernet in here. They are Sep UTP and fiber.

So what is this telling you? If once you first when you get to the particular place you want to know work and you ask all the questions. All right, what type of network Do you require? What type of speed Do you require to run any security but all these different things are far apart are going to be the computers or do you have multiple buildings or what have you now give you an idea. So you can gauge the type of equipment that you need. So when you purchase, this is a port when you purchase a device, switch, router, cable, whatever, okay?

You need to know if you need to have fiber ports on there or not. Okay. Normally, everything nowadays has gigabit ports, everything's pretty much gigabit or 10 gigabit capable. Well, fiber is a different story. You got to make sure do you need fiber? Are we going to run a backbone on fiber?

Are they going to pay for that? Because it's not cheap. Okay, so you're Want to make sure that before you start doing anything you need to gauge what it is that this particular network requires. Okay? If you're walking into Joe blows, you know, tools and accessories, he's not going to need fiber. Okay, the only UTP and pretty much 90% of all networks out there are UTP Okay, very rare RSVP, you know, like 8% RSVP and then the last 2% are fiber.

Okay. But if you're walking into an enterprise network, right, yeah, they're going to need fiber, especially for those backbones. Okay. So make sure before you start doing anything where you're getting into a habit, okay. ports and cables and connectors. Obviously we use rj 45 connectors.

They support 10 101,000 right using our all negotiate. I was dancing. Alright. We know the standards. We know the standard, you Better notice then. Alright 568 v Tia I finally see v. y is what we use, you know, the brown, brown, white, green, blue, white, blue, green, white, orange, orange, white.

That is the standard. Okay, that is the standard for a B, make sure that your network that you're getting into is running that standard. How do you do? Well 20 Allah does existing, pull it out and take a look at what that job that they're using and take a look at what they have. Alright, some may be using vi CCA throughout their entire network, you never know why. So make sure that before you start doing all your cabling, that this is the standard that you're using if you're running, you know, STP or twisted pair, cabling, wires.

Okay, what you can also have and this is when I will be honest with you everyone in telecommunications is where I ran to these particular types of sfps is what they call Gigabit Ethernet connections take a different approach by providing modular connectivity options. Yes ssps we have bags of this stuff, okay. And depending on where they're going, this is an SSP gig Aleksey 1000, base, Lx 1310 nanometre class one laser product 21, blah, blah, blah, blah. All right, but all you do is you go to the switching, or the router and you put put us put it in there, okay? And then the type of cable you require will be able to get plugged in. Alright, so these are modules that you take out and put in take out and put in.

I can't tell you enough. How many times the guys from the field we just come in, hey, I need that T one cable. I need this SFP were and they weren't cheap. We have bags of it, but they weren't cheap. Okay, and there's different types of it. There's a 100 base sx, again, plasma from a different provider.

Okay, so both of these, this is LX, this is sx. So when you're handing out these sfps you got to know what it is that you're using. Okay? As you can see, I got these pictures on the internet. But these aren't part of the first time I saw these. This is in telecommunications, I never knew that this existed To be quite honest at all if I work with telecommunications, and they're the ones that use the demos, never seen it on an actual network in schools that I worked at, never seen these sfps before.

But again, that's pretty cool because now you know, now you know those types of switches or routers that support where you put these SFP modules in you can take a man and pull them out like a man and pull them out depending on the type of speed required in cables that you're using especially for Gigabit Ethernet or fiber. Alright, and here the Gigabit Ethernet media again, here's the type they need to remember the SX Alex dx and the T. What type of fiber are they're going to use? Is it multimode? Or is it both multimode a single mode but you see that the single mode was further you know why the single moguls for the right. What did you talk about a one is skinnier than the other. There's not going to get any other attenuation as it goes down because the light is bouncing up and down, right, we know why, why there's no room for the light to move to go straight.

That's why goes further and goes further. All right, so here you have multimode and single mode fiber that you can use. With the 1000 days zx, you have single mode fiber 70 to 100 kilometers, that's pretty far. That's pretty far. And then your regular water base 1000 base t, which is an RJ 45. He says 100 meters 100 meters you able to get gigabit but only 400 meters.

That is just the standard of it. All right now for 10 giggy to round this up for 10 gig Ethernet, here you are, or your cx fours as ours LRM for LR and er. Again, just learn to time learn to type. I don't get crazy with the microns know their multimode fiber or single mode fiber and their maximum distance. That's what you need to be concerned? They're not going to drill you.

They're not going to drill you. Okay, on what microRNA we running here and how many nanometers and what class it is. It is just impossible to remember all that information for all that cabling, all that you are an actual Kapler, and you're doing cabling 24 seven, then you'll remember that all other than that, you're not going to remember that that's what we have notes and that's what we have books and we look back to when we forget something. Okay? So remember the type. Remember that it's multimeter single mode and the distance.

That's pretty much it. See you next
