Welcome back. In this short video, we are going to talk about organizing your notes. Some of you may have taken notes just on paper. And if that's the case, you'll just be using analog methods such as a notebook. A three ring binder would probably be the best you can three hole punch or notes and place them in the binder and put little tab dividers by book. You could organize it by genre if that was preferable to you.

But the main thing that you need to do if you've written out your notes is to make sure that you have the book title and author and I would also include the date on each page just so that you have them in order and then place them securely into your three ring binder or you could also use file folders and just write the name of the book or the genre at the top of each file folder and keep those in your file cabinet. You'll be able to access everything really easily. If you've taken notes using your computer, you'll need to organize those into a digital notebook that will have a logical structure by title, author genre, however you'd like to organize it and make sure that you have that information as you save your files so that you can easily find them and organize them in your electronic folders.

Another important thing to do is to define a set of usable tags that you can search through so that you can type in a certain genre or a plot element that you want to find. And then you can search those things in your note taking system and it will lead you to all of your notes that address character traits or mysteries or the turning point or climax of stories. Try to come up with some reusable tags that you can easily search as you go through your notebooks. on your computer. And lastly, you should establish some naming conventions that you use on all of the books, you read all of the notes you take for those books. So decide how you're going to organize that naming structure, by title or by author's last name alphabetically, or some kind of logical way that makes sense to you.

So regardless of whether you're keeping all of your handwritten notes in a spiral notebook or file folders, or maybe a three ring binder that you three hole, punch your notes and place them inside there. Or possibly note cards if you're a note card person, or whether you've taken notes using your laptop. The main thing is that you want to have the same system for each book so that each time you finish a novel or short story, you know that you're going to easily be able to find your notes from that story and be able to access them to reference in case you're recommending something to a friend or just looking back for Your own information. And hopefully, just using some basic organizational skills, their alphabetical order for the author's name or title by genre, possibly. However you think it makes sense to you. That's what I would go with.

And then make sure that you're consistent. And you'll have really good luck keeping track of all of your notes and remembering what you've read. So good job organizing your notes, your activity for this lecture is to go through and make sure that you are organizing your notes properly with this first book, or story. And then from this point forward, you'll have your system in place you'll have that structure. And when you read more books, it'll be easy for you to organize your notes so that no matter what you'll always know how to find that information. Again, once you build up all of these different notes on different books or stories, you're going to have just a wealth of information that you'll be so glad you kept track of So good job getting organized does not feel good to Know that you're keeping track of everything you're going to remember all of these stories, you read all the future books you're reading.
