In this presentation we will download and restore the primary backup files we will be using with this problem. If you don't have the backup files or don't want to restore the backup files, it is possible to start a new company file and work with much of the information along with the instructional videos. However, the backup files do have some added information. So if you want everything to look exactly the same as we work through the data, you would need to restore the files. Also note that we do have other backup files that you can use to jump forward or move back to a particular point within the problem. And you would need to go through the same restoration problem or process in order to do that.
Here we are on the website where we can download these files, you should have a link to get to this website. Once here. This is going to be the primary backup file. So these are the ones we're going to be working with from scratch in these problems. So we'll start from these items from this backup point. So we can download this this is in Chrome.
It will then download a zipped file. As we can see here, so it's going to be zipped, our next step will be to unzip the backup file. So I'm going to pull this over on the desktop by just dragging it over onto my desktop. Once there, we can see that it is a zip file. So if I open up this zip file, then we're going to see an item within it. I don't want to try to unzip it from this file, I may be able to, but it would be safer for me to take it out of this zip file.
If I double click on this, here it is and put it into an unzip file and that will cause less problems within the backup and restoration process. To do that, I'm just going to open up another folder, which I put on the desktop as well it's under new folder right there. And then open that up and we'll just drag this over, we can copy and paste it or drag it over. I'm just gonna right click and copy it. I'm going to put it here paste it there. And there it is.
If I close this back out, and close this back out, then now I have a copy in here but I'm going to use the one that's in these unzipped folder to do the restoration process, we're then going to open up QuickBooks. And remember, we can't open this zip file directly, I can't just double click on it, we got to restore. So I'm going to open up QuickBooks and then we'll go through the restoration process. This is the screen you will typically see if you do not have a company open. However, when you open up QuickBooks, it'll probably open to the last company you were in. So you could close it or you could just open a restore from that area by going to a file, and then going to close the company.
If you close the company, then you'll be in this screen. Once in this screen, you can create a new company or you can open a restore a company I like to do it from the file drop down Up top by going to File up top and then going to open or restore company. Then we're going to go to the second one because we need to restore the company it is still a backup file, not a restore file, and we'll say next, then we're going to locate it it is on the local drive so we're going to keep it there. Then we're going to find where it is on the desktop or on the computer. I saved it to the desktop under this folder where we put this new folder to never will name but there it is. And then here's the file, it's a cube BB file, backup file, not a restored file, then we'll just double click on that or open it.
And say next. Now we get to tell it where we want it to go. And I'm just going to put it into the same folder. That's not advised if it was a restoring a backup file, you want it on two different drives, but for purposes of our problem should be fine. So we'll keep it there. I'm going to say save.
And then it should go through the restoration process for us. So there we have it, give it some time to restore. QuickBooks is a large program so it can take a bit of time. So here it is up and running, quick look on our desktop to see what happened in terms of a file data. If we open up the new file that we put this information into. Note that we kind of have a lot of junk in here.
Why? One of this is gonna be the backup file. It's still there. Then we made the new file. Which is going to be the new file that we created. And then it made all these other kind of things that it put in there that we may or may not need.
This is the primary file. So in other words, when you restore it, make sure to do it to a folder, we don't mind that a bunch of stuffs probably going to be thrown in there. And just make sure that you know, you have two files and this is the one you want to be working with. And if you rename this, you can right click and rename the file, you may want to do that and call it equity or classes, whichever whichever one is appropriate depending on the problem that we are working with.
