Hello guys, welcome to my Cambridge English advanced video course. In this lesson, we're going to be focusing on part four of the use of English paper. So these are the question types that you will be faced with the use of English paper. We're going to be focusing on part four, which is key word transformations in this lesson. So I'm going to teach you the best tips and techniques to follow part four of the use of English paper. And then we're going to look at some strategy and practice these tips, technique and strategy with some real exam sample papers.

So how many questions are there in Part Four? There are six questions in total how many texts Do you need to read? Just one text? Just one, one text for each question will look like this with a sentence and then a sentence below. How many words should you write? You should write between three and six words.

And should you change the word that they give you? No, you should. And as we can see, they give us this word here, we need to keep this word in the same form, when we use it in the gap in the sentence. Not explain here that you are given a sentence with a few words missing, which we can see here. What we need to decide is what was complete this sentence. Now they also give us an example sentence above.

We need to make sure the sentence we complete has the same meaning as this example sentence above. They also give you one of the words that you need to use, which we can see here. So we need to use this word somewhere in the gap with our two or three or four or five other words that we use with it. We cannot change the form of this word. And I say that this word is often the word that dictates which other words you need to use with it. So time for my first tip.

Read the example sentence above, which they give you. Then look at the word they give you. Then think how can you use this word in the sentence If you know the missing words already, maybe you do if you're looking at anything, okay, I know I know what the missing words are. Make sure they stay congruent. So make sure if you use a verb you're using the correct form of the verb for the subject that you are using. For example, they are not they is, for example, a lot of people lose marks like that.

Make sure the words Stay calm. is another example. If you use an uncountable noun, do not write the word many before it, because the word many we only use with plural countable nouns. Okay, time for my next is the word they give you used in any common English expressions, or phrasal verbs. This part of the exam test your knowledge and awareness of English expressions, and phrasal verbs. And this will give you the essential vocabulary that you need and it will teach you a lot of really useful phrasal verbs and expressions that you might need to use in the exam. So yeah, I recommend buying this course book. One what I do to help myself answer these types of questions is I actually often ask myself a question using the word they give me. And the example sentence has the context. And then I think of a full answer to this question. And I'll show you what I mean within Excel So let's look at this question here again, question number 25.

Well open. So you might need to pause this video now and type this web address in and press play when you're ready. Hopefully, you'll be looking at a document which looks like this. When you've done that, what you need to do is to scroll down on the first page there is some useful information instructions to candidates in the exam, which can be good to read. So you have an idea what type of things they ask you to do.

We're going to scroll down to where it says Part Four. That's Page Six, because it might be easier for you to Read these questions on your web right on your web page, as opposed to in my presentation here. But yeah, what you need to do focus on Question number 25. So this is my question I've used the word that they give me is, and the context, they've given me the example sentence to create this question, is there a strong possibility of rain? also use the sentence that we need to fill to help me with this question? Yeah, this is the question I've come up with, is there a strong possibility of rain?

And now what I'm going to try and do is answer this question. And the answer based on the evidence they've given me is yes, there is a strong possibility of rain so full on sec could Be this, we have decided not to change our plans, even though what even if there is a cap on that would also be okay. strong possibility of rain. So from the question I asked myself in the answer, I gave myself three of the words that I needed. And in this part of the exam, you get two marks for every question. So that alone would have gotten me one mark.

But I also would need to know that I need to use the word even though, even if, in this context, and so that's why getting a course book, like the one I recommended a few minutes ago, is really useful because it will teach you this type of vocabulary and the grammar things that you need to know for the exam. But this is the best or really, really good technique to use to think of the answers to these questions. Here's a quick add a little bit of tip for you. Another quick tip for you. contractions are two words. So contraction if you have the word don't for example, it counts as two words in the exam, not one word.

Okay, so time for my next tip. Tip number three common English expressions, phrasal verbs, and knowledge of grammatical structures are tested here, for example, reported speech. And here again, I'm going to recommend to you buy this course book. Yeah, it's really useful. It has all the essential grammar that you need. So type this web link into your internet browser and you can find this book.

But hopefully most practice books if they're called C A, or C one advanced should give you the Most of the grammatical structures and expressions that you need to use. This is a book that I use with my students. And I know it has a lot of really useful information, and a lot of great practice exercises in there. But I say But the problem is, even though you have a course book and you study thousands of expressions and loads and loads of phrasal verbs and loads of grammatical structures, you don't know which ones you're going to need in the exam. That's why it's important to study a whole variety to buy a course book and to go through the whole course but you don't know which one is going to come up in the exam. Okay, so for homework, what you should do is to follow the tips and technique strategy that I've showing you in this course, in this lesson in the same order, and use this strategy to complete a course before the exercises integrate Cost book.

For example, this one here on this page that I've recommended, but also, you should use the structure and tips and technique to complete part four exercises which you can find here in this document which I've shown you as well. Once you've done that, you can actually find the answers to these questions on the last page down here there is an answer key for the use of English paper. Thank you. So you know, okay, this is what I do first, this is what I should do second, this is what I should do third, make sure you know that strategy and use it to complete part four exercises in a course book.

And if you do this several several times, then this technique in the structure will begin Come like second nature to you, it will become normal to you to approach this part of the exam in this way. That's what you need. When you go into the exam. You need this strategy and this focus so that you know exactly what you need to do.
