Hello guys, in this video tutorial, you're going to have a look at the Cambridge English advanced. That's the cae exam. And we're going to be focusing on the the course format of these video tutorials, which particularly are focusing on the listing paper. So this is going to show you what we're going to do the next few lessons after this one. So just a bit of general information about the CMA exam before we we go into more detail. There are four different papers.

It's It's It's interesting because there are four papers, but really there are five sections. This first paper reading and use of English. The use of English is more grammar based questions. And then you also have reading questions. So it's kind of like two different sections that they put them into one exam paper. That's why it counts for 40% of the overall marks, whereas the listening, writing and speaking, they will count for 20% each.

Okay, and they have a different amount of time for each exam paper, as you can see here. So you might want to pause this screen at this point and just have a look and get familiar with the different papers that are in the exam. But we're going to have a look in more detail at the listening paper throughout this course. So, yeah, let's have a look at the listening paper. How long does the listening paper last? It lasts for 40 minutes.

How many parts are there in the listening paper? This paper that has has four different parts and how many questions are there in total? There are 30 questions in the listening paper in total I say that you need to write your answer on the question paper. And then at the end, you transfer your answers. So you have about five minutes, I think it is to transfer your answers from the question paper to the answer sheet. And you need to write in capital letters and big letters.

When you're transferring your thoughts. And I say there is an example of sheets on page 74 of the Cambridge English advanced teachers Handbook, which you can find if you type in this web address, and go to page 74. The page numbers are at the bottom of the pages in this handbook. Okay, so let's have a look at the different question types in the listing paper. So Part one is an Multiple Choice part. This has six questions and you are awarded one mark for every question.

There are three options, ABC, you have to choose which one is correct? is a correct is B correct or secret? In part two, you have one long passage, there are eight questions. So there are eight gaps in the long passage, and you have to fill in a few words each gap. Again, you are given one mark for each question. Part Three is another multiple choice.

You have six questions. Each question you are awarded one mark for this time, there are four different options. So, it's a bit different to part one, you have three options in part three, yeah, four different options to choose from. And in part four, which is called the multiple maps You have 10 questions. Again, each each question is awarded one month. And in this section you have to match different speakers to some sentences or phrases that you are given.

And I'm going to do a video lesson on each part of the listening paper. So, yeah, you should be able to find the best way to complete these and have a look at these in more detail in future lessons. So, part one multiple choice task. Let's see if you can remember how many questions are there in total? There are six questions. How many texts Do you need to listen to?

How many listenings there are three. So two questions for every text. How many options can you choose from because it's multiple choice You have three options to choose from. And how long do you have to read through the questions at the beginning of the exam paper. You have 15 seconds per extract. So there are two questions for each extract and there are three extracts.

So you have 15 seconds for the first extract the first two questions, and you have 15 seconds for questions three and four and 15 seconds for questions five and six. This is from the Cambridge English advanced handbook for teachers. It says that this pilot tests the candidates ability to listen to short dialogues and show an understanding of just detail function, agreement and course of action, as well as the speaker's purpose feelings, attitudes and opinions. When we do the video lesson on part one, we will do some some exercises to help us focus on the type of language you might hear, which refer to these different ideas. Okay, then part two sentence completion. How many questions are there in part two?

There are eight questions. How many texts? Do you need to listen to? Just one, it's one long text with gaps in it. How many options can you choose from? No options.

You just have to listen and think that you have the information and write it in the gap. But you have no options to look at no options to choose from. It's not a multiple choice. How many words do you use to fill the gap? Okay, so you can write between one and three words. So you could write one word in the gap or two words in the gap or three What's in the cache?

And how long do you have to read through the passage before the listening begins? You have 45 seconds to read through the passage before the listening. And here it says this part test the candidates ability to follow the main points of the text main points of the text and retrieve specific information and stated opinion. Okay, so there's three things really here need to listen for the main points, specific information and stated opinion. This is from the Cambridge English advanced handbook for teachers again, and when we do the video lesson on part two, we will look at this in a bit more detail. Okay, part three of the multiple choice how many questions are there, per se Questions.

You need to just listen to one text this time, so different to the multiple choice before you have three texts. In this one, you only listen to one. How many options can you choose from four different options? Again, that's different part one. So probably you're just going to be listening to one person might might be two people. And you have four options to choose from, for each of the six questions.

And how long do you have to read through the passage before the listening starts? You have 70 seconds to read through. Sorry not to read through the passage, but to read all of the questions before the listening begins. Okay, so 70 seconds to read the six questions and the multiple choice options, four options you have before listening begins. And I say hands Part test the candidates ability to listen to longer interviews. Often they are longer interviews with one person interviewer and person answering questions can also be discussions though.

And it says and primarily show understanding of the speaker's attitudes and opinions. Okay, so the speaker's attitudes and opinions, agreement just feeling purpose, function and detail may also be tested. Quite a few different aspects to listen to here. And again, we'll look at this in more detail in the lesson on part three. And finally, Part Four, multiple matching how many questions are there in Part Four? There are 10 questions in total and this divided into two different sections.

Five questions and five questions. And how many texts Do you need to listen to? fight? So you have two questions that are related to every text. How many options can you choose from? There are eight different options that you can choose from.

For the for the first five questions and eight different options to choose from the second five questions. So you have five questions and eight options. And you have five questions and eight options will become easy to understand. When we look at this in more detail video lesson on part four for listening. And how long do you have to read through the passage for it begins for the listening begins. You have 45 seconds, not to read through the passage, sorry, but to read through those questions, to read through all 10 questions what they're saying you have 45 seconds before the listening begins.

And I'm going to teach you some really good tips and techniques. And and, and we can practice these in future lessons of what to do in that 45 seconds or in the 70 seconds or however long it is before the listening begins for each part of the exam. Okay, and I say here, this part tests the candidates ability to identify the gist of a number of short texts on a theme. For example, by identifying the main points, just attitude and opinion. And again, we will look at this in a bit more detail. When we do the video lesson on part four of the series.

A very quick tip for you before we come to the end of this lesson, which is always writing answer you don't lose marks for writing an answer. So write something now and who knows, it might be correct. Okay, and in the next lesson, we're going to be focusing on part one of the listening paper, multiple choice. Thanks for watching guys, and I'll see you in the next lesson. Take care
