Now what we need to do is make this a solid mesh. So right now, it's got this open top. So it's seen as a non manifold material or model here, you could, you know, apply all these modifiers here, and then you know, lock it all down and then seal up that top with the F key. And that would 3d print in slicers. In vase mode, you could do really quick 3d prints of this vase here. But I'm going to show you another way where you can kind of shell it out and kind of give it some thickness.
But first, we may need to scale it up. So let's go back into object mode. Look at our size, it's five millimeters by three millimeters or four millimeters tall. So let's just scale this up into a real size so you know how to do let's just look until the x and y go to 100. Somewhere in there, there we go image tip period on the numpad. And now we've got a realistic size that we can 3d print here a cute little vase.
So next, we want to add a modifier to kind of thicken this up. And that will be our trick. Actually, let's, let's open up the bottom. If we're going to be a planter, we need to make sure we can let some some water drain out. So let's go into front mode and edit and grab that middle center point right there, and then grab it on the x axis and just slide it and if I tilt to the bottom, notice we've got a little water hole, a little water hole, so you can make that as big or small as you want just to let some drainage happen. And you can or can't do that, whatever you would like to do.
But let's go ahead and make this into a shell or more of a solid material. So to do that, we're going to add a modifier called solidify and we'll make it more solid. So right away, it's really really, really, really, really thin point 01 thickness, but we need to make that maybe as thick as our, our print or print nozzle. So point four, you could even do point five up and notice that It made it really thick, like almost an inch thick. So it looks really cool kind of like the Michelin Man or the, the Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters. So you could do something like that.
But the reason that's happening is because our scale is all out of whack. So if we go to our scale, look at our scale ratio, it is 17.4. So we need to reset that so that our ratio is set correctly. So just click on the vase, go to Object Mode. And then we're going to apply rotation scale fixed, done easy. Now let's reapply that solidify modifier.
And now if we do point four, it will actually be point four, you can kind of tell if I zoom in here, look at the top edge. You can see it a little top. And what we've done is kind of made it into a little kind of plastic, thick outline. And that's a really easy trick to keep everything still really flexible. And kind of thicken it up. I might even do point five or point 6.7.
You can try whatever you'd like. But let's gets into edit mode and kind of fix some of these angles, it's a little steeper than a 45. So I'm just gonna bring this, this little bottom edge and hit G and X to just bring it out to kind of make that more of a 45 degree angle there. That looks pretty good. And maybe, you know, just check your angles, you don't want anything too steep, or you may have some issues. So let's even just bring this in just to be a little safe.
Little getting a little crazy there. So we can bring these in and out, just kind of slide with the grab tool and x and that will, you can change it up really easily. And if you ever need to add more vertices, you can select all go to segments and subdivide and then tell it how many more I wouldn't go too crazy with it. But notice it gets smoother and you have a lot more control. So you want to do a bunch of wavy lines, things like that. So I'm going to undo that just to keep my face count down.
But what I am going to do is just select these two, and subdivide those, it's kind of like making a loop cut. And if I just grab the center one here, and let's zoom in. What I'm trying to do is flatten out the bottom here and get a really kind of like a sharp line. So we'll just see, we'll just grab it. And let's, you know, we don't want it too far, I'm trying to keep it from blowing out really far and going past the 45 degree angle. So just kind of tighten it up, even if you have to go in just a little bit, because it looks flat.
But it could have a slight dip or curve in it. So I'm just gonna make sure and an easy way to do that is make sure your cursor is in the center. If it's if your 3d cursor is not in the center, you can reset it with shift s and you have all these different options of where to put it. Usually I'll put it in the cursor to world origin and that'll snap it to the 000 in your worldview. Shift a to add a Plain and it'll probably come in pretty small. So just size it up to 200.
And we want to go back to side view, and just drop it below the pottery there. And then now what we're going to do is just extrude up until we hit the bottom of that kind of the y axis there. And we're just going to cut off the bottom if we go into wireframe mode, you can really see, you know, we're just cutting off a little bit, we could, we could go even deeper into the stick part, let's hit G, and z. And you know, we don't want to go all the way through it because then it's going to be a whole big hole at the bottom, but we want to go maybe halfway through this bottom here and that's just going to make sure that this is you know, really flat at the bottom. Because I want to 3d print this without support and without wraps.
Let's go back into solid view. And now we are ready to get this to go to 3d printing so we can collapse and inspect this
