So this lecture, we're going to talk about inducing a relaxed state or inducing a meditative state. So this is what you want to do is the first thing you're going to do with someone after you've set the tone. So after you've set the nice and created a nice room for them to be in, maybe have some background music and aroma therapy, then the lights, maybe Patta, a little premeditation interview or discussion. So now you're ready to begin the meditation. But before we get into that, before we get into beginning the meditation, let's talk about the brain for just a moment and brainwave cycles. So somebody quite some time ago as before the 90s had the great idea of hooking people up to machines with wires and measuring the brainwave cycles.

I think they measured in cycles, electricity, I think they're called hertz or something. But any case, what they're able to do in those studies that they were able to The breakout four levels of consciousness based on the cycles of the brain. So the first one was called beta. And so the beta state of mind is the awake or conscious state of mind. So it's the state of mind that I'm in right now. It's your cognitive, your cognitive processes are alerts, usually the state of mind you're in from the time you wake up in the morning till the time you go to bed at night, so it's your awake conscious state.

The second brainwave state is called alpha. and alpha is the one we're going to focus on in this lecture. And this is the light relaxation state. So in a meditation, you might use the light relaxation just to free your breathing, maybe to de stress and to relax or to send yourself are grounded. And sometimes that's all you'll do with people. And then and then and you can also go into that state of mind naturally.

So some examples would be like, if you're driving a car in an open highway, you know, sometimes it's called highway hypnosis. So like, you just drove 50 miles you didn't know where you were, or like watching television. So television puts you in a light trance state, which is part of the reason why television advertising can be so effective because your subconscious is open and they're planning images and sounds and, and words inside your brain and they kind of stick. And so the next brainwave state after alpha is theta, and that's a deeply relaxed state. It's a deep meditative state, a hypnotic state or a trance state. And when you're in the deep data state, this is where it can do some really powerful healing works, which is releasing suppressed emotion from the past, releasing trauma or actually creating a vision for your future or creating what it is you desire in your life.

So so the profound work gets done on a deep brainwave state of beta. And then after theta is delta, and that's a semi comatose state, where you're unresponsive. So I've gotten into that before myself and I don't remember what happened when I was In it, I didn't remember anything about it when I woke up. And so if you ever lead a meditation and somebody kind of goes out like that, first thing you'll notice is that they're very, you know, they're breathing and they're alive and all that kind of stuff and it's hard to wake them up. So if they go into that state, just let them and no wake up eventually, and they'll just be like they came out of asleep, or you can gently nudge them or wiggle them a little bit to get them come out. So if that does happen, it's it's not serious.

Just allow them to come back naturally, they might be kind of out of it for a while might need to find themselves before they leave the room. So if that happens, make sure they're all together before they before they exit and go drive a car or something like that. So so we're we're going to talk about is inducing a light trance state in this lecture. So that is the alpha state. And it's an essential first step for any meditation that you've read. Because without it, you can't really meditate.

So that's opening the doors to meditation. So you want to get in that that That initially relaxed state. And the best way to do it, is to use your voice. He's a slow monotone. With a steady and soft rhythm almost like you're using a metronome except the metronome you're using is going to be your heartbeat. So you want to speak at the rate of your heartbeat.

And as you do this more and more, you're going to realize it's not important what you say. But it's really important and how you say it. So you want to be soft, but not too soft. Want to be loud enough so people will hear you. And you don't want to let your voice taper off as you go. Because you can go into a relaxed state yourself as you're leaving meditation and you don't want your voice to taper off.

And then timing is very important. So like I mentioned the heartbeat of the metronome. Make sure you're soft, rhythmic, relaxed. It's quite easy to do once you get into it. I'll give you a sample here in just a sec. And there's a number of different different techniques you can use to induce the, the light meditative state, one of the most popular is called a progressive relaxation.

That's actually where you talk somebody to relaxing their body just bit by bit. And that's going to be the meditation associated with this lecture. So hang on, I'll take you through that. So you systematically relaxed the whole body. It's very effective, a lot of people use it. You can also read stories, which I love to do, or you can read scripts, I'll have scripts for you to use also throughout this course.

And so that kind of takes the pressure off you of not having to make stuff up, you can actually read stuff or read a script in a slow monotone, relaxed voice and that will take people into a nice relaxed state. And when you're taking people into a relaxed state, it's also important to use compound suggestions, which means use the words like peaceful, relaxed, calm, secure, use those words over and over again and people will just naturally go into a relaxed state. It's very And then you can also go into a relaxed state or semi trance state yourself while you're working with people. But this is not at all riemeck recommended for beginners you want to be more of an advanced state. So when you go into a deep altered state of consciousness or a deep trance state while you're working with other people, that's where you're getting into the realm of shamanism and energy healing.

So hold off on that for now, it may be something you can progress to at a later date. So let me give you a little example of how to begin a meditation just by using your voice. So go ahead, close your eyes. Take a breath and start to relax. Maybe you'll start to feel peaceful. Maybe you'll feel calm as you continue to breathe relax unwind to let go.

Okay, so in that example, I hope you're noticing how is using my voice kind of monotone, very relaxing, there's a cadence to it. And in this part of the meditation, you will probably want to do this for at least five, maybe 10 minutes to get people into the relaxed state that you're looking for before you take them into a deeper, relaxed state. So let's go to the meditation from here. It's a progressive relaxation meditation, like I mentioned before, and this will give you an idea and a technique to use to help take people into that light or that first relaxed state.
