Now one of the toughest challenges that you're going to face is being Miss understood. You're going to be Miss understood by family and friends, they're going to look at you working from home, not earning much money at the beginning, and they're gonna think you're unemployed. And they're going to even challenge you sometimes if you're struggling, that you should go back into employment. Why is this? Why do people respond this way? We're going to look at that, but the first thing we have to do is we have to understand that we need to start managing intrusions.
What do I mean by that? You're not unemployed. When you build an online residual income business, at the beginning, you'll probably find in 40 5060 hours a week is normal. But what will happen is when you're working from home, especially, people will just imagine that they They can just come and visit have a cup of tea, they can just come over and start talking or they can ring you up. Or maybe they can just ask you to come and help them do something. And you've got to manage intrusions.
And the way you have to manage this is by you have to be very clean, very direct and explain to people, you are not unemployed. You are full time working in this business. And that's one of the big misunderstood things you're going to get from friends and family. They're going to misunderstand that actually. You have restrictions. You need to be diligent, as we said before, you need to be working.
And they need to understand just because you're working from home, that that doesn't give them the right to intrude. And you can do that gently and kindly. And I often just have a smile on my face and I just say, guys, I'm not unemployed. As simple as that. And the other thing we have to do is we're going to deal with discouragement. We're going to deal with people saying, Oh, this isn't gonna work.
Why are you doing this? Why? Why are you trying this? Why don't you just get a proper job? Why don't you get a normal job and you have to understand well views and values. Now, we all subconsciously have presuppositions things we have presupposed to be absolutely true.
And we often won't challenge those presuppositions. And when you understand that people don't challenge their own presuppositions when someone comes and challenges you and says, for instance, why don't you get a normal job. They don't understand that they've just assumed that a normal job is the best way of earning money, but it isn't. A normal job is a terrible way to build income. Let me explain why. You are basically changing time for money.
So that means that your employer has to pay you less than you're actually worth to make a profit from you. And the other thing is, you are in an income cap or an income trap, there's a certain level you're never going to rise above doesn't matter where you are in the salary scale, unless you're actually part owner of the business and the profits in some way, shape or form, maybe free stocks and shares. Other than that, you're pretty much going to be stuck ceiling unless you train and develop and then there's a new ceiling. With online residual income for instance, if you create a digital product or you find a retail product that you can sell continuously. The only restriction how much money you can make it How many people want to buy that? But the programming we had for the last 30 4050 years is go to college, get a job, get in debt, with a house and a car, paid off over time, have a few nice holidays.
And at the end of your life, you might have a few grandchildren or whatever. That's what life is. But why? Why do we have to assume that that worldview is correct. When we can create we're living in an age where we can create digital products or physical products that we can sell, when there's no restriction on the amount we can earn. Other than how many people actually want to buy that and how many people we can get out in front of.
So we have to understand that the challenge the misunderstood challenge that we're confronted with will come from them having A faulty worldview of what is a legitimate way to money and that's why it's really important. When someone challenges you to look at that person's worldview, understand your own worldview, but look at that person's worldview, look at that argument and analyze it before accepting their advice. And this is where it helps us because now we're dealing with discouragement. So most sources of discouragement are going to come from income problems. Or they're going to come from those around us, criticizing and not supporting, often thinking they're doing the best for us. So we have to keep focused on what we're trying to do.
So we have to practice hope. We have to be diligent and we have to discipline associate ourselves from the idea that our value is based on what other people around us think about us. Because that's what really going to bother us is not so much where we're failing or succeeding as what people think about us. And we have to detach from that we have to say, my integrity. My value is not based on what other people think about me. I need to be encouraged by my dreams and my hopes, and my diligence, and I need to keep moving forward until eventually I reach my goal.
I cannot be dependent on other people's opinions about me, those around me and often those that are closest, could be family could be brothers, sisters. Parents, could be children can be a spouse. We have to learn to disassociate ourselves, understand their worldview, and be encouraged that we know why we're doing what we're doing and how we're going to get there. And you have to be the crazy one. You have to accept that you are the crazy one. When me and Philomena, my wife started a business 15 years ago, we just gave up and we decided was going to start selling antiques online.
All of our friends thought was absolutely crazy. They still think we're absolutely crazy. 15 years on our closest friends still don't understand why we do what we do. A few of them do, but most of them don't. And you have to accept that you're going to be the crazy one. You're the odd one out, you're the black sheep.
Now guys, that's okay. That's okay. Because you may be the one that ends up achieving something that they never could and it's not about making as other people, not what I'm saying, or what I'm saying here is this. Don't let other people stop you being and achieving who you want to be.
