The next secret we're going to go over secret number three is not all PR is good PR. And I'm sure you've heard this one a bunch of times before. But it's true because sometimes even if you've got some bad PR and you try to cover up that bad PR the world only gets worse. And the best example that I could find is the Delete Uber movement that happened a couple of years ago when Uber did not honor a strike by Taxi Workers. At the New York City LaGuardia Airport, they chose to pick up riders anyway. And that was a huge Firestorm.
And I think within that weekend 200 to 250,000 people deleted Uber. And you know, they tried to cover this up and try to do some things, but it just didn't work. And one of the reasons it didn't work is because Uber has had a constant stream of bad PR. And it started with harassment, sexual harassment, and how they were handling it. And when women did come out and say, Hey, this is a caustic, toxic work environment, they pretty much just sort of tried to shuffle under the rug. And it's never, ever, ever a good thing to do, because the cover up is literally worse than the event.
I mean, the events are bad, but if something goes wrong, sometimes things happen. You just have to admit you're wrong and move on and not try to cover it up. And that's what Uber was doing. So all of these scandals in this bad PR, you know, when something other bad happened, it just kind of piled on and piled on and piled on. And one of the other ones that happened around the same time was don't fly united. And this had to do a lot with when they live dragged a man off of a, an airplane, bloodied him up and it was on video and the way they handled it, which was really bad was that their CEO said we were just following established procedures.
And let me tell you, you know, it doesn't matter if you were when you have that kind of viral video, that kind of really strong image of someone not only being bloodied but carried off. There is nothing you can say other than, I'm sorry, I hope they're okay. You're never going to get you're never going to win this. So, in the PR game, it's always better to get ahead of a story. And be honest and straightforward. Don't try to cover things up because it will always get out.
So if you're ever in this situation where there's going to be bad news, get ahead of it, apologize. Do what you have to do, to be as respectful And as open and honest as you can, and don't try to hide this Don't try to hide it because people will find out. So next up is secret number four
