The next secret we're going to talk about is that the press releases dead. Well, sort of dead. Press releases are not what they used to be even five, even 10, you know, 10 years ago when there was a premium on actually getting them released out to the news wires. Nowadays, anyone can release a press release. And as PR professionals, we use them but we don't use them as the only thing to get the word out. We typically use them as the tip of the spear of our communication strategy.
And part of the reason that's the case is that nowadays when you do a press release, you know, you may get covered in all of these great things but do you really want to get you know covered in the Nashville news update? I mean, that's for a lot of people doesn't really matter as much they would want to be in more, you know, focused media or tech media or whatever. So, it is one thing to always remember, press releases just one part of the communication structure. Especially when you're going to release a product. But you know, as PR professionals, we will never surrender this. So it is going to always be the tool or one of the tools in our toolbox to, you know, get the word out.
And the beauty of it is, is that there are templates that you can use and now actually put a template in the class notes. So you guys can take a look and make better press releases. But, you know, just so you know, it is not the only thing that you'll need to do. It's one of many things and it should be maybe the first thing that you do so that you can actually get the rest of your communication strategy sorted out. So that's it for the press release.
