Okay, so some of you might be a little bit frustrated with this ugly looking thing. So I'm gonna do is basically fix that right now before we get into the meat of the subject in this lesson. So double click on your roto. And basically the easy fix to this is basically the clipping format. Now, we have this clip to our format. But as we all know, the Apple is actually a little bit smaller than our David bounding box right here as you can see 2216 3000 so the fixed is double click, just change clip to to be box and now if you view your final merge our composition, you can see that this is fixed.
All right. Now I'm actually going to deactivate the key light and actually we're going to do this a little bit seriously later on. And I'm actually going to do the same thing for my apple in the off effects 10 is off, double click, perhaps turn off my curves over here as well to make it look the same. This issue is caused by auto alpha again, this is not proposing cars, but Just follow along, double click on my image and then just set this to auto alpha, basically telling me that I want my layer to have an automatic alpha channel applied to it. Alright, cool now actually into this lessons topic, basically, the most important part of any workflow is organization in order, not only for your team, but also for yourself sanity. And that's a tweetable moment right there, huh?
Anyway, I'll first start covering how organizational structure can be done in After Effects. So in a, you basically have a few options for organization, pretty calm, coloring of layers, and also if I maximize this markers, with comments, and notes, so for example, if I were using After Effects here is how I would do some of the organization. So let's say I have a bunch of a just gonna randomly create some new layers, just one layer I'm just going to actually apply very obvious effects. So I know terms drop the in adjustments, super obvious. Okay, so in order to pre calm, you would basically just click and then press hold shift is like layers, go to Layer, pre compose, or Ctrl, Shift C. Okay, we just name for now. And that's basically how you would kind of organize things.
Next, a different thing that you can do. Speaking of naming things better, basically naming your layers properly. So I want to change the name of this pre comp, hit enter with the layer selected, I'm just going to call this apple with facts, enter to apply. And then same thing with this layer, David, background character. And of course, you can also change the color of these layers for better organization. So maybe your team has some structure for certain colors.
In a way, organization is entirely up to you. And of course, lastly, as mentioned, not the effects. You can also create markers at any point in a timeline, especially useful if you have a Video kind of import of video footage. So let's just say I'm somewhere over here. I'm going to hit on the asterisk with my Num Lock that is activated. You can see I just created a maka double click.
And you can actually type some notes in comments right here. So let's just say hello world. Just kidding. All right. And of course, you can actually apply this to each individual layer. If you have that layer selected something you want to click here, hit asterisk and can see I just created maka, same thing.
For example, if you have a team, get john to fix this string. All right, in New York, you have a bit more variety and flexibility. And of course, you guessed it, all the organizations are also all done using notes as well. So for example, we have the pre comp, which is a little bit different from After Effects pre comp. We also have the group node, the backdrop node, and of course, sticky notes just to name a few. So, let's start With something that's a little bit more like pre comp, Now you might be thinking that pre comp in nuke is the same as how it works in After Effects is actually different.
It's actually the group node, because the pre COMP node in nuke actually takes you out of the current script, aka the new file to another new script, aka new file. Now I tend to spec on, let's just say I want to group this apple together. So with my notes selected, you can do this two ways, select them hit tab and search for group or you can actually use hotkeys which is important as a beginner to know Ctrl G, you can see I just created a group node and I entered inside that group node. Now asking you which kind of following notes you want to use in the output. I think we are fine with basically the Color Lookup, which is our last node used. That's okay.
To see I created a group which is kind of similar to After Effects pre comp. Now in order to enter into this group, there are many ways as usual, you can actually go to Edit node group. And you can see all these options that apply to the group, expand group, Open Group note graph, Ctrl, enter, you can see that entered inside the group that I just created. Now, ignore all these inputs for now these are basically telling you how much inputs that the original notes have and whether you want them to be applied to the group. But if not, this is basically your group. Now I have a bunch of groups going on.
So it might be a little bit confusing. And here's where we get to the next stage of organization, which is basically renaming our notes and coloring our notes. Now let's actually go back, I'm going to close the dope sheet and go back to our original Node Graph. Now I'm actually gonna rename my group to to something more useful like similar I guess to what I renamed here. Can I do that here, just put a label there Apple facts, or I can do it right here. In this case, I can actually just type this right here Apple with facts.
You see it as being applied. Now you see this two icons right here. Again, to make things a little bit more organized, you can actually change These colors, the first one basically changes the color of your nodes. So I want to make this red just click on the first icon. Same with David as well, let's just say I want to make this the same node color you can see hover over this first icon, press and hold and drag this and you see the little plastic shows up with the box, drop it, you can see that this basically applies the same color to my node. All right, the next tool organization is basically I'm just going to delete these sticky notes.
Now again, in my opinion, the most useless node in nuke is the sticky note. But if you haven't have to use this, just know that you can basically type in notes here, comment. You can see this being reflected in my note graph. Now it's kind of ugly, and the only way to fix that is just add some spaces before and after in your label. And you can also of course, change the font size. This will scale up your sticky notes, etc, etc.
And lastly, my favorite organization tool. The backdrop No, no bang drops are actually much easier than stickies because they are much more visually appealing and obvious. So for example, let's just actually try with these two. I'm just going to select these tap, drop, I can see I created a new node as an organizational tool. I'm just going to call these important references. I'm going to change the font size to 20 can even I tell a size it bolded change the font family type, however you want.
And once again, these are all visible at the first level and can be moved around as a group very easily as you can see right here, and you can even create backdrops within backdrops. So for example, if I create an entire backdrop for these tap backdrop, and then I want to create a separate one, maybe for the apple, let's just say no these over here. Tap backdrops. Change the color to make it a little bit more obvious and you can backdrops within backdrops can also be created. Now of course another fact you can also create new folders to quit your things in. So let's just say important references inside the Projects tab.
Once again, all are simply different ways of organization in nuke. Now here's a quick exercise. Go ahead now and use the group and backdrop nodes to clean up your Node Graph in your current script, aka nuke file. Once you're done in the next lesson, we will actually go through how to export our footage or image out of nuke, which is actually very different comparing to how you would normally do it in After Effects.
