Materials

  • iPads, mounts
  • 3-sided backdrops
  • Whiteboard
  • Whiteboard markers
  • Legal pads/writing paper
  • Pens and pencils
  • Storyboard template copies
  • Writing paper
  • Pens/pencils
  • Modeling clay
  • Construction paper
  • Markers (thick and thin, assorted colors)
  • Tri-fold display board, black or white, at least 12” high when set up as a triptych
  • Large binder clips to hold the construction paper backdrop onto the display board
  • Scissors
  • Glue sticks
  • Googly eyes

Preparation

  • Charge the iPads.
  • Be sure to have a food storage container ready to contain any clay figures created.

Terminology

Frame: One exposure, or one image, in an animated sequence. In a storyboard, a frame is a single scene in the story.

Set: The decorated stage where the story occurs.

Backdrop: The items of the set that are drawn on construction paper are affixed to the back and sidewalls of the set to help create the scene. For example windows, doors, picture frames, a view of nature and the outdoors, a cityscape of buildings, etc.

Director: Directs the action on the set and instructs the camera operator by calling “Action” to start the filming and “Cut” to stop the filming.

Camera operator: Runs the software that operates the camera.

Story editor: Ensures that the scene follows the storyboard to tell the story.

Set designer: Arranges the characters and props on the set for filming. And makes the small movements of the characters between takes.
