Hello, and welcome back to another edition of how to play the sax. And in this lesson, I have a question for you. My question is this hands up who is old enough to remember the original TV series of Batman? I can remember it. I was. I was very young, very young.

Okay, but you might have remembered it from when you were very young. Or perhaps you might not remember it all. You've probably heard of it though. The original Batman TV series was so bad. It was fantastic. It was outrageously terrible.

And it was awesome. It was really awesome. And the music was really cool too. So in this lesson, what I wanted to do is learn the TV theme for Batman on our saxophones. Now in keeping with the theme, I do not have Ansari, a Batman mask and I didn't think it was appropriate to wear my undies on the outside of my Batman outfit that's just a little bit too big. So I will in keeping with the theme, I have my Batman socks.

Here's my Batman socks just to keep a reminder where we are. Can't see my feet so I will just tuck my very clean, not stinky Batman socks, just here. Now, Batman The words you remember the tune, you probably know the words it goes like this. No, no nana nana nana nana nana nana nana Batman. No, no, no, no, no, none of that another Batman, Batman Batman. And that's it.

But the Batman thing is actually really good. From a saxophone fingering point of view gets your fingers all moving or working quite nicely. Now. Have a listen. I will play it. It goes like this.

No, no, no, no, no, no, no And that's it now sounds trickier than it is, my tongue is moving a little bit faster than perhaps will, will do. And what you can do right now the second couple of new notes that we need to put in. In fact, only one new note we talked about in a previous lesson, B flat, the B flat is a little is lower than a B, so there is a B to make a B flat, you put down the a and this third key on the side at the same time, so that is a B flat. Right, so B flat so the first section of the of the Batman song goes B, B flat, A, B flat, B, B flat, A, B flat B kinda does that over and over again. And I'll apologize Now, it's just started raining outside. So if it sounds a little bit fuzzy, we'll apologize for the rain.

But Batman was a caped crusader and he didn't let the rain stop him, and neither will read. So let's keep going. We'll do it slowly. I played it quickly before but this time, we will do it slowly. So go B, B flat, A, B flat, B. All right, have a listen.

I'll do it. It goes like this. Can you try? We went through the first time you tried joining with me now ready? 1234 how'd you go? Not hard, so does that.

It does that a few times. It does that four times. Okay. We'll try that one. 234 was that it's not hard, it's not difficult, not difficult at all. And if it is, maybe we can slow it down.

Maybe you can slow it down at home, maybe you can stop the video right now. And just do that just a smidge slower. B, B flat, A, B flat, B, so it goes up and down, up and down. The Batman song actually does it twice. It comes each note twice. So let's try that double tonguing so like this, have a listen to me.

You try that joining with me now. We'll play it For that little line four times, Okay, here we go four times, two times each note starting on a B. One, two. Hey, ha. All right, four of them. Cool.

Now the next bit the next bit, it is the same concept. Same idea, but we're introducing a new note this time. We are going to, I'll show you first and I've lost my Batman sock. Man, the whole lessons ruined. Lost my Batman symbol. I suspect this is going to fall off a couple of times.

Apologies. All right. Where was I? You Notes section. section of that man tune. We know that a he and we know the D, it's got an E, but we're introducing a new note with our right pinky and it is called an E flats.

So there is our a, a flats is this top key on the side here, the top key and the D. So a and the D finger and the pinky. So it sounds like he was out he lost my sock again. And this stand up again. Apologies for the way up. Okay, back to our notes, ie. A flat, D lift the pinkie back to the flat, put the pinkie back on.

Back to the E. So a, a flat, D a flat a D flat, D, E flat like that. Ready? I'll show you again. You try with me ready? 1234 Is that okay? Is that okay?

I think it is. I think it's okay. Let us try once more with a Batman sock but I suspect if it falls off again, I might just ignore it. Let's try 123 Paul Can we try that but with two tongues for each note to tongues for each note, dot dot dot Da da da da da. Here we go. 123 Whoa, huh?

Easy, easy. Well, so that let's just recap. We'll do the first bit four times. So that's B, B flat, A, B flat, B, more of those, and then we'll do to have a, a flat, D, E flat, a, a flat, D flat. Yep. Okay, so, we'll just do it slowly.

We'll do one note for each four times through from the B to the B flat to the A to the B flat, and two times for the E and the D flat and the D. All right, let's try one note. For each One ready, follow me 123458 then it goes back to the B. Now, we introduced the most important part where it goes Batman, Batman, but man, all right, so the first Batman is an F sharp, F sharp with the register key at the back. So it goes like this. Batman you try ready 1234 And once more for laughs high F sharp Batman 1234 another Batman on an ad going down from the F sharp to the A. Now the Batman Ready, one, two on the E. And then the final Batman is back to a b like this.

So we'll try those three Batman's F sharp, F sharp F sharp, a BB. Let's try that 1234 once more with feeling Batman, starting on the F sharp with the register key 123458 Batman down to be Batman. So that's the song broken down. Let us try that all at once. We will do it slowly. Let's do it.

So we got four times for that first section, two times the first four times with the first section, which is the B's, B flat. Start again, B, B flat, A, B flat, B, B flat, A, B flat such for them. And then there's two of the E flat D, E flat, E flat, D. Then there's two more of the B's, B flat, A, B flat, B, B flat, a, and then we've got the final Batman's F sharp, F sharp, a baby. All right, clear as mud. Yes, it is. Let's try that once.

Slowly, four times with the bees at the start. 123 Hall. How'd you go? Let's try that once more at that speed, just the one note for each the one tongue for each note. Ready? Let's try that again at that speed 123 Hall.

Good Now let us add in to tongues to tongues for each note. Again we'll go slowly. Apologies if your tongue gets a little bit tired and kind of dribbling plugging Papa by the end of the song, but that's okay. If your tongue gets tired, well, you can either keep playing because it's good for you, or you can stop, have a rest and come back. So to tongs for each note. Are you ready?

12345 Fantastic varies the whole song. So the challenge for you is to speed that up a little bit. Now that's going to be difficult. But speed it up slowly. Don't Don't go down and on and on and on and on. Because you'll fall over and your tongue won't work and it'll be it won't be a good experience.

But if you can do it slowly like we've been doing in this lesson, great if you can get your fingers coordinated that speed. Awesome. If you can Get a little bit faster, that would be even better. So over the next little while next couple of days please practice that's Donna Nana, Nana and then maybe a little bit pastor Donna and a little bit faster Donna Nana, Nana, and then Donna nananananana. I'm pretty soon you'll sound just like Batman in the original 1960s version of the TV series. That is a big clap of thunder.

I think that's a signal for me to be quiet. And I'll leave you to say, Commissioner Gordon, it's the right signal. Thank you very much. I'll see you later on.
