Do know your brain has needs to follow orders. Hello everyone. In this module we will talk about two structures of the brain. One is a magdala. Another one is hippocampus. Those structures be a part of the invisible wall that we mentioned in previous lecture.
So let's see a video. In this video, only the intercalating is not an actor. When the lady got into the elevator, she faces the door of the elevator. However, we should notify all the people in the elevator are facing the opposite side. She gradually turns her body to follow the majority. The video is a conformity experiment, you can find a much simpler Love video online.
And that is the question why the lady choose to follow others instead of being herself. Because human has needs to feel safe be part of a group is one way to feel safe. We all search for sense of safety under any circumstance, because this is our survival instinct. This concept bring us to the brain structure name, amygdala. amygdala is a complex structure for understanding communication, we see it as a safety detector, when we are interacting with people and make them help us define whether is safe or not. To figure out the person is a friend or an enemy.
In other words, when two people are talking to each other, their brains couldn't help but automatically scan each other. Based on the scan result of safety, the brain would scale the likeability to the person, put it this way. If you want To have a positive outcome while communicating with a person. The first and foremost critical concern would be to one make the person feel safe. Do I let the amygdala of that person to find I'm a friend. So the amygdala is the first structure.
The second structure is hippocampus. hippocampus is responsible for many functions. For the sake of understanding communication, I would like you to consider it is a structure of memory. Imagine this, there are two memory drawers in hippocampus. One is big, another one is small. The big one stores all the bad memories and negative experience.
The small one on the other hand, stores all the good memories. Your scientists don't know her test set, new ones that brings out that fire together wire together. So if I see something if my brain defined that is Save or good or positive, it will fire the good memory in my hippocampus. For example, I see a beautiful word just in a store, I immediately create a good image in the brain that I were that were just built following the reason I can create an image because that just triggers some good memory in my hippocampus. In contrast, if my brain defines something that is dangerous or bad or negative, that would trigger some negative memories on my hippocampus. In other words, how a person remember me when we meet and talk is based on what memories have been triggered in their brain.
Remember this, whether good or bad memories have been triggered in the hippocampus that would wire more and more similar memories. To sum up, if you want to have a positive outcome in communication. There are two Fundamental concerns. First, make people feel safe. Second, trigger good memories inside of them as much as possible. In the next module we will see what the subconscious mind is.
