Hey guys, and welcome back to the low poly mini planet tutorial. So in the last lesson, we created a river for our planet. And now in this lesson, we're going to start making sort of mountains and hills and other sort of landscape things to make our low poly planet a little bit more interesting. So to do that, we're going to head over to the live selection tool again. And again, we're going to go to the polygon, the polygon tool, and we're going to make sure that the earth sphere is selected. And what I'm going to do from here is I'm going to zoom into our entire planet.
And all I'm going to do is I'm going to select different parts of the sphere of the land, which I wanted to sort of extrude and make into sort of mountains and hills. So the way that I'm going to do that is exactly the same way as how we did our river is I'm going to just Select these polygons here like that. And then I'm going to right click on the under selection. And I'm going to choose, let's choose bevel and see what this does. So beveling the out and you can see that you can create a mountain out of that just by sort of clicking on that selection with the left mouse button and dragging it to the left of the screen. Now for this mountain, I'm going to want a little bit more segments than just one segment.
You can have one, one segment if you want if you want a really sort of low poly look, really sharp looking mountain. This is the way to do it. But I'm going to create more segments Going to create a base here like this. And then I'm going to use the same tool again the bevel tool. And I'm going to click on that selection and make the middle part of the mountain release. And now I'm going to make the top part of my mountain here, like so.
Excellent. Now what you can do is I wants to join the the top of the mountain here. So I'm going to zoom in. And I'm going to make you can see that the selection here is I want this to be a pointed tip. So let's left click on that selection and I'm going to see what what tools we have here. To sort of merge these polygons together now I'm going to find there's one tool that wants to find Okay, let's try it.
Let's try stitches. So, some good select that. That selection. I'm going to go to the edges tools here. In fact, let's right click and go back to bevel. I'm going to click out that and I'm going to select these edges, the edges that wants to sew together.
Right click stitching, so I'm going to see what edges I can sew together like that. This is just a matter of selecting the You want to sew together to create a nice point for your mountain. Do that bit again, these two together these two together. And there you go. So now I have a nice point. Oh, got something here.
There you go. Now I've got nice points for the mountain. Another thing that you may want to do whoops, just go back to selection tool again, is you may want to select the edges here, just by holding Shift and clicking on the edges that you want to select. Oops. So holding Shift and clicking the edges that you want to select. I just want to select the edges around here.
And what you can do by doing that is you can now move the mountain a little bit so it's not so not so straight so I want it to be a little bit a little bit randomized, a little bit deformed. Same thing again, hold shift around the mountain and then selecting the edges that he wants to manipulate. And then using the move tool, you can now move the mountain just a little bit like that. Great So now that's one mounting done. I'm going to go ahead and create a few more mountains just to make it a little bit more interesting. Before I do that it's a, it's a bit a little bit too wonky for my liking.
So you can also do the same with the polygon tool. So I'm going to go ahead and select these polygons. Whoops. Now I've got the Move Tool selected, I'm going to undo that, make sure that I've got the live selection tool and select the polygons that I want to manipulate. And now let's go ahead and move it a little bit like that. Great.
Now that I've got the tools that I want to use Anyway, let's go ahead and select some more mountains. So I'm going to make a mountain here. I want let's have a couple more mountains. So I'm on one mountain here and another mountain on this side of the, of the main mountain. So let's go ahead and select the mountains exactly the same way that we did before. Let's see.
Go ahead and select them here like that. Now I'm going to right click and choose bevel again exactly the same way that we created the previous mountain. I'm going to do the same for this one. zooming in. Now I'm going to use the stitch and sew tool but before I do that, let's go ahead and select the edges. Make sure that the edge selection tool is is selected.
Now I'm going to go to stitching. So, zooming in here, I'm going to sew the edges that I want to stick together. Let's go ahead and do these. These these and the on the this one. Oh, that's not a woman that what I want to do with this tool is a little bit of a trial and error to that now that's Bring these images together like that. Excellent.
And now I'm going to go ahead and do the same thing. I'm going to select these edges to randomize the mountain the drill bit. Go around this mountain, selecting the edges that wants to manipulate these select that one because I don't want that and then just sort of using the move tool to move it around so I want actually want this mountain to be a little bit smaller than the other one. Do that. Actually, no, that's not why want this. Like that.
Okay, oops. Right. So that's one mountain. Actually, I want to move that selection up. Let's move that selection up a little bit. And I'm going to use the Scale tool to scale it down just like that.
Okay, so that's one mountain done. Now I'm going to create another mountain over here. So this mountain is going to be a small one. So let's go ahead and select that. And I'm going to do exactly the same thing bubble blew out. And I'm going to now use the edge tool.
And the Where is it? The stitching so tool I'm going to Smith sure that I've got no edges selected first. So stitching, so now wants to sew certain edges together. So that one and that one. So now we have three low poly mountains. Excellent.
So now that we've got our low poly mountains in the next video, we're going to go through how to do a little bit of selective coloring. See you guys there.
