Hi, in this segment, we're going to look at some surprising fun facts about the respiratory system. You lose a lot of water just by breathing, the average adult loses 17.5 milliliters, which is about point five, nine fluid ounces of water every hour at rest when they're breathing, and that's according to a study that was done in 2012. The study went on to say you lose four times as much water when you're exercising. Another fun fact is that your lungs are the only organs that can flow. When your lungs are filled with air, they can actually float on water. Another fun fact is that you breathe 13.1 pints of air every minute, and the average adult breathes 12 to 20 breaths per minute.
Another fun fact Looking at the lobes of your lungs, your right lobe of the lung is actually larger than your left lobe. And the reason for that is because the left lobe of the lung has to accommodate your heart. So in order to accommodate your heart, the left lobe is smaller. A really interesting fact, especially if you play tennis is that if you were to lay your lungs out flat, the lungs would actually cover the surface area of a tennis court. So think about that the next time you play tennis, and finally, we lose about 75% of our body's waste through breathing. So breathing and breath work as you can see is very important.
