Okay, this aspect of the course, specifically deals with the employment package. And the first document and employment package that we're discussing would be the cover letter. The cover letter is the introduction that's going to get you introduced to the employer, and hopefully, and ideally, we'll draw them in and out to invite you in for the interview. It's going to brag about your specific skills, and your qualifications and refer to your resume and be written in enough in an impressive manner enough to invite you invited in for the interview. We've designed a very basic but effective cover letter. That's easy enough that you'll be able to plug in your information and customize it so you can use this and add to it as you continue in your employment ambitions.
First, the heading the heading should be thick and bold and attractive. You can take this one as it'll be in a Word document but I recommend that you customize a little bit yourself. But the boulders should be your Name obviously, as it is here, we want it to include your your, your address, your phone number, your title if you have one, and your email address and phone number, obviously, but also some people are adding which is appropriate these days, your social media link or site, such as a LinkedIn page that highlights your professional profile. If you have one of those even better. The heading down top down in the body of the letter, dear sir, hiring manager if you don't know the hiring manager, specifically, if you'll have their name, if you do, that's even better. But if you don't use the generic title, introduce yourself there.
Then the topic sentence. This will start out from your company website. I've learned you have positions available for we'll leave that blank, whatever your title is years research and you plug it in there. Second part of that sentence is basically saying I'm writing to apply for that position. And I believe I'm the ideal candidate for this position, I believe I'm the ideal candidate. What that sentence does is draws you in.
It's a confidence statement. It's a attention builder. And it makes the reader want to hear more because they want to basically know it tends to ask, Well, what makes you the ideal candidate? Well, that's where the body of the rest of the letter comes in. As my resume indicates, I have X amount of experience, and customer service or whatever your title is, or your the title of the position. Through my day, you start talking about your experiences, you basically add a highlight from your resume.
As my resume indicates, I have X amount of experience in this, you had a sense about your work ethics. And since it's about your previous experiences, you brag about any accolades or any accomplishments you've made during those previous positions. And at the end of that, that cover letter you simply asked for the interview. I'm confident that with my skills and abilities that I'll be an asset to your organization. That's once again, emphasizing what you said at the top I am in it to win it, I can bring value to your organization, you have to highlight those things. The last part of the cover letter, basically asked for the interview.
I'm excited about this opportunity. I look forward to discussing with you in person at your convenience. As my resume the call is enclosed for your consideration, feel free to contact me directly. For any additional questions, you're basically asking for the interview, I'd like to talk further with you in person. That is a very simple but effective you don't want your cover letter to be long and drawn out but you want to have a short but effect with a few impressive attributes and make them the employer or the reader want to invite you in for the interview. This aspect of the course, spirit deals specifically with the next level of the employment package which is the main document which is your resume.
The resume template that we've designed. It again is a simple format. Then has to do with the qualification skills, work experience and so forth and adds a section on work ethics. This format you'll be able to download and plug in your specific details and customize it with your information. We've made it very simple in Word format. And I'll be available and for questions or any follow ups if you have any challenges, but you pretty much it's a straightforward very simple to plug in your information, we add some leads the resume again, the headings should be exactly the same as your cover letter, make it highlight make it bold, the objective statement simply to obtain a blank position where I can employ my skills and training.
Now you plug in that blank with the title of the position you're applying for that sample. Then you can enter your qualifications. We've already gave you some lead examples of what simple qualifications are could be, for example, entry level positions where most people in the Getting in the job market. We'll have possibly entry level or ground level positions. So we've designed the resume template to speak to those type of jobs for example qualifications. One qualifier will be your high school diploma.
If you have a food handlers license, a safe certification, a CPR certification, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, ROTC training specific certifications in certain things, you add those in your qualifications. You can also add years of experience if you had two years in customer service, or two years of ROTC, or something like that. You can add those specific qualifications. Those are technically specific, specific credentials that qualify you for this type of work. Next, you have your skills. Now we're talking technical skills here, technical skills, and soft skills.
Now you can separate these two, you can have a section for technical skills this way talks about skill said which is soft skills, for example, communication skills, ability to handle point sale transactions, problem solver, those specific soft skills mixed in with technical skills. Now knowing the difference between technical skills and soft skills, technical skills, something you specifically are trained to do to accomplish a specific task. So the skill section, also relevant experiences. Now that's where you add your recent experiences in terms of your maybe it's a fast food restaurant she worked at this example for example, Mary's pizza shack, city, the dates you were there, your title and least three duties that you were able to perform in that particular job. So you speak of your relevant experience experiences, speak in terms of company name, your title, and the list of duties that you perform. Next when you work there.
Five and Dime communication organization. My title was customer service rep. I did this, this, this, this and this. The template has a format where your experiences you can plug in with the name, your title and your list of duties. Last section in the resume portion template talks about work ethics. How are you as an employee, ask yourself what would another employer say about your work ethics punctual, great time value responds well to supervision those are golden terms, follows directions acts for clarifications, dependable, reliable, those are very valuable employability skills that you definitely want to add to your resume.
So that format is a simple resume format is very simple. Again, it's available for you to be downloaded. And if you have any questions or comments, I'll be there to support any follow up. Download the resume and plug in your specific details. Okay, the last document In the employment packet is the reference list this list of professional references. Now everyone at this point should have at least three or four professional references that they can add to their employment package to validate who you are, and what type of employee you are and any positive experiences that they have and they can validate on your behalf.
Now, again, the headings should be exactly the same as the other your resume and your cover letter. And you want to add three references titled professional references. Now when you have your references, you want to communicate with each person on this list to make sure that they are aware of you. And you often want to send them an email copy of your resume. So if an employer does call you call them about you. They can speak in current terms, so they can have an idea of who you are and what you're doing recently.
So you want to proactively call your representatives and mentioned to them simply, I'm using you as a professional reference in my job search. Expect a call from an employer. And if by the way, if they asked you, if you have any idea what you would say, I'll shoot you my resume so you can have some information about it. So that's a good idea. Your references should include relevant information, and updated contact information with specific emails and phone numbers. I speak often to employers, and they say one of the biggest challenges they have these days is verifying references sometimes.
So make sure your references are clear. They're current, and you can they're easily accessible. That's the last document in the employment packet. Again, these are these documents will be available for you to download. And you can customize it can't get any easier than this. And if you have any questions or comments, shoot me an email and I will help you get through it.
