So now let's talk a little bit about how you can approach new people. So the first way I would encourage you to do is just to make a comment, or just to ask a question. It means that you could just approach someone and say, Hey, excuse me. Can I ask you a question? Excuse me? Can I tell you something?
And then the question could be a basic question. It could be about anything. Because what we want to do here is that we want to break the ice. What will be important later, is what you say, for example, how you lead the conversation, order the order that we'll see that later in the course. But for now, I would like you to just see these approaching this approach as just breaking the ice. So the idea is just to be able to say something.
Because remember, what is really important, is not the words that you say, but it's because you are the one saying them. The words are only 7%. And the 93% is the nonverbal. So basically, words don't really matter. And you could approach people by saying random things. As long as your nonverbal is on top and is great.
You could approach people and talk about anything. So I went to bars to clubs, networking events, and I had to approach with nonsense. I had to talk about seafood, and then about beer, and then about about my cats, about all the things that didn't really make sense. But my nonverbal was on point. And I still was able to get new clients and to make new friends. But I would like to show you here is don't spend too time thinking, oh my god, what should I say to approach people?
Most people won't even remember what you said, when you approach them. So just focus on just starting the conversation. So you could ask a basic question. You could just approach someone, and then you can ask a basic question. Excuse me, can I ask you a question? Do you know the best restaurant in town to eat sushi?
Do you know when this place closes? Do you know when is the next is the next conference? You can ask questions. Any question is great, even if you already have the answer. The idea here is to just ask questions to start the conversation. And again, so give a comment.
You can just approach someone and then you can say hi, I just wanted to tell you something. I really like your shirt. I really like your suit. I really like the conference, the conference that you gave before, you can say hi, I really like the food here. It's really great. Oh, by the way, my name is Alan.
And then you introduce yourself. And the second way that I would like to share you here is about introducing yourself. It's really easy to just walk up to someone and say hi, my name is Alan, what's your name, and then you have started interaction. So I don't want to give you complicated ways of approaching people, because it won't serve you. Right to give you the most basic ways. If you don't know how to approach someone, just go Introduce yourself.
You go, Hi, my name is Alan, what's your name? And then you will see that it's, it's easy. It's not about finding the perfect words. They don't exist. Just go with something come up with something to say, and approach the person. So, to recap, you can ask a question you can introduce yourself.
And as a small bonus, I would like to give you here, you can compliment someone on their behavior. And you can use the sentence. Hi, I just wanted to say hi, because you look friendly. Hi, I just wanted to say hi because you look open minded. Hi, I just wanted to say hi because you were smiling. Hi, I just want to say hi, because and then you say a positive quantity that you saw in that person.
It's really, really great here. And then in the next video, we'll discuss about what you can say after that. So see you in the next video.
