Excuse me one moment I have a sick child at school and I'm just waiting on the call from the school. May I put you on hold for One moment, please. That's how you should ask someone to be put on hold. Don't just say Hang on a minute. Oh, I got to take it if you just say that what you're telling the client customer bosses, hey, you're not really very important that anybody else even the telemarketers were important than you. It's very insulting to someone.
So my recommendation, don't put people on hold. But if you have to ask and give them a reason, if you do that, then you come across as very respectful, polite. It's much easier on their ego, they'll have a better perception of you and they're not going to think you're rude.
