Hi, I'm Steven Mathur, and welcome to creating a culture of continuous improvement. Less than one, why do you want to change your team culture? So what is a team culture? And why should you care about it? One way to describe it is it's the way things are done around here. It's a set of behavioral and social norms, things that you expect people to do.

It's the sum of lots of individual behavior. So that's another way of thinking of a culture is lots of different behavior all added together. And that becomes the normal way of behaving. If you want to know a bit more about what a culture is and how it develops, and by all means, check out the base module of this program. Kind of influences what your team does. So that's why it's so important.

The members of your team will come to your team with certain beliefs, values, ways of thinking, etc. They'll get those from their parents, their grandparents, what they see on television, what they've read their friends, and also from their genetic makeup, their traits and tendencies that they're born with. But it's absolutely natural for individuals to be influenced by others. So when they come into your team, they're going to be influenced by those around them. What you're trying to do is leverage this tendency to influence the behavior that you need and create a specific culture, in this case, a culture of continuous improvement. On these cold change programs, I talk about three Steps to culture change.

And those are Firstly, identifying the culture you need and why you need it. Secondly, identifying the behavior that will create the culture. So if culture is basically the sum total of lots and lots of behavior, and what you're looking to do is identify the specific bits of behavior that go to create a certain type of culture. And thirdly, identify what you need to do to influence that behavior. So let's take this first step. What culture Do you need and why?

So I'm assuming that you've chosen to watch this course, because you want a culture of continuous improvement or ci in order to find more cost effective ways of doing things and more efficient ways of doing things. Find safer ways of doing things. To reduce waste to shorter lead time and to add more value to the customer. So it's time for a little exercise. What I like to do download the exercise sheet and jot down the answers to these questions. Firstly, why do you want to change your team culture around ci?

What has happened recently that's prompted you to want to change that culture and what are the benefits to you and your team
