The song starts out with a chord slide with a yet another variation of our C chord, I'm going to make the C with my left hand C major. And then I'm going to take my pinkie and not on the first string, but on the second string, I'm going to put it on the third fret. We're going to do a pinch, my thumb is going to get the fifth fifth string, my first finger is going to stroke up and get the second string and the open third. So we've got this. And then what he does to kick the song off, at least in the 1928 version, is he's going to slide this chord shape up a fret, and then move it back and he's gonna pinch three times 123 like this. That's all he does.
To kick the song off, from there, he's gonna go right into an F and he's gonna play this. And so the way to get started with that sequence there over the F is with two pinches, we're going to pinch the sixth string and the second string. And then I'm going to drop my pinky down on the third fret of the second string. And we're going to pinch the fourth and the second string. Then my pinky, or my first finger is going to get the second string this time my pinky comes off. So my pinky is going to do this, watch the pinky on the left hand.
So when we pan the pinkie is down, and then right away, we're going to take it off and go That constraint, you get that little pinch down to pinches in a row. That first part is pretty simple because after you upstroke on the second string, you're just playing with your thumb 646 so that little part over the F chord and then my pinky is going to go back down on the second string as my thumb comes down on the alternating bass. So the whole thing so far. Let me do that right. I'm coming down on the second string, alternating bass. Not taking my pinky off picking the second string, getting the sixth string.
These first few songs I really break them Down the picking with the right hand especially so you can get a feel for how you play the style. Later on, we'll go a little faster, but check it out again. And then to lead into the C chord, got this little walk on the fifth string, taking my second finger second fret of the fifth string, my ring finger on the third fret. And then we're going to make that C chord with our left hand with the pinkie on the third fret of the first string and the ring finger moving over the sixth string. And the first time we're going to do out of that position is another pinch, this time, the fourth string and the first string. So let me play all this in context.
We'll take it from the top what we have so far I've got a pinch that I'm gonna pick back and forth with my first finger on the first and second string. So we've got See if you can do that. I'll try to slow it down again. Now let's do it a little faster from the base. What I'm doing here gotta pinch the six the open first now with my pinky coming off Putting the pinkie down with the downstroke. So we got this out of the C shape.
Let's do the whole song again to that point because we're getting ready to go back to our F chord. So the whole thing so far, and then we're gonna go back to our F again. Same thing we played before. Now we go into the C again. That time we played a little different pattern over that C, we're going to hold everything solid, we're not going to move the pinkie around. We're just gonna do this One more time, so we go from the base walk.
Now we're going to go to an E. And when we start off the E, we get our left hand in position. And then we've got a pinch the six then the first strings which are both open and they're both ease. We're just playing that alternating bass, the six for alternating bass over the core. One more time with a ladder. Now we're going to do something a little tricky. I'm going to take my left hand first finger and I'm going to take it off the third string and hammer it on.
This is being picked with My right hand first finger and you'll see where we we come into this. Let me just play the whole thing through like this. That's what we're trying to get to. So we pick, we're keeping the E chord shape. hammering on with the first finger, my thumb comes down. So we got this.
Open, he is actually another pitch again, the sixth and the open, first string, so open sec, open first. Then I'm going to move my pinky to the third fret of the second string. My thumb comes down that turns our E into an ISA. So let's do The whole song again in context slowly
