Suffering with a chest infection for weeks, or having to go on antibiotics, all of that kind of stuff. So it's really good to know because you can save someone from going down a very bad road. So it was 1918, I believe, yeah, it was used to treat the Spanish flu. And it was the only thing that was was effective. So it saved people from death. So, and basically what you're doing when you apply hot and cold is you are stimulating the body's own healing responses.
So you're getting wherever there's pain or inflammation or infection. The more that you can get blood and lymph flow to that area, the quicker it's going to heal. So and it's it stirs the up so it gets a system that stagnant moving. If you're laying in bed for a while with a an illness say you've got a chest infection and your limp becomes very stagnant. So it's very helpful to someone who's bedridden that do do a little bit of gentle massage to get that system moving because they need it for healing. Okay, so it increase circulations and you're going to increase the amount of blood white blood cells, the healing blood cells that are going to come to the area.
Relieves congestion internally helps with muscle spasms if you have back pain due to muscle spasm or herniated disk. This can be very helpful, any kind of muscle tension cramping and if you have cramping and Oregon's it's it's great to do on the liver can really help to clean a liver, do it on your abdominal area and it stimulates your sedates depending on the temperature the application so there's some basically we're going to go hot cold. For some conditions you don't want to do the cold so whenever you have a condition that is aggravated by cold so if you have a cold arthritis or someone's really can't get warm, they have a lot of arthritis pain you're only going to use warm not real hot and and not cold. So there are a couple of exceptions for using cold. This is really great for numbness or any kind of nerve problem helpful for insomnia, the chest congestion, you really can't be that it's wonderful for that nervous tension.
So If someone's really mentally kind of fragile and nervous, you would again only use warm for that person. You don't want to do fermentation on anyone who has a loss of consciousness or loss of feeling because they can't tell if something's too hot or too cold. Now, these hot water bottles, they're generally not going to get all that hot, but nearly from on enough, you could long enough you could cause a burn. If you're using the heating pads. Again, you don't want to have someone fall asleep on that. And if there's any tendency for bleeding, if the person has anemia, or they're tend to bruise really easy, you want to be cautious and careful about using fermentation on that because it's going to increase blood flow, right?
You don't want to increase blood flow in someone who's already kind of bleeding in places. Oh, I have written out some very detailed instructions that I think I'm going to leave. But I'm also going to give you a much easier simpler way to do this because chances are, when it's time to do this, you will not have a full mentation blanket in your house. Okay, and they use these half will have cotton pads that are very quite thick. And the reason they use those is because they'll hold the heat for a long time. There's also these hydro, they've got little bit of water in the stacks and you heat those up in the microwave.
And they'll stay hot for a really long time because you want to have the person have around at least about five minutes of heat. And then you're going to do a cold scrub and then you're going to repeat that and it has to be repeated three Three to five times two because you want to get the colds gonna reduce inflammation, contract all the blood vessels and you're only going to do that for a little bit and then boom more heat again so that the body starts to do this increased blood flow thing. So a very simple hydrotherapy or fermentation type thing that you can do if you have cold hands, is not just run them under hot water, but run them under hot cold, you alternate you get hot until it's warm until it's getting uncomfortably hot, and then you put cold on until it gets old to get cold and then you put hot again, do that three and five times and that will actually start increasing the circulation in the hands and feet.
You can do your feet that way too. But very easy. You know to do that. Top for sure it's hot, it is helpful if you have someone that you concern about raising their blood pressure or their internal temperature, you can take temperature that that's getting pretty fussy. You might want to take the intern in temperature to make sure someone doesn't have a fever or they're not getting too hot that way. Okay, so and there's a few different methods.
So you can use the boiling water method but you kind of need to people because what you're going to do with the boiling water method is dip the bottom of a towel. So I am this year. Say this is boiling hot water. This is actually my ice water. You would dip the towel in like this into the hot water and then two people one on each and we're ready And you could probably do it yourself if you were under pressure to do that, but you don't have to do it that way. The thing that people will most likely have at home is heating pads and water bottles, right?
If you have a microwave and this would be the only reason I would get a microwave would be to heat up your moist towels. So generally you're doing fermentation with moist heat. And that your water bottle is not quite the same thing as having a moist fermentation pad, but it's gonna do the job. So better to do it. Any kind of way than not do it at all. Is is the motto here, especially if you have a chest infection.
Now if I have someone with a chest infection when you want to keep them warm, so I would hook up the heating pad and have someone lay on the heating pad and because I have a massage, body heating pad for my massage work, I would just use that, but most people are going to have something like this. So you would have your person lay on this and you'd put it on very low. And if it was too hot, you're always checking in with someone if it's too hot, then you're gonna put some blanket or something in between the heating pad and the person who's lying on it. Now I know my massage pad is made for people to lie on for extended periods so the heat is low enough, it's not going to bother them. And then if you're working on the back, working on somebody's back You're this, this setup would be for doing the chest.
So if we just do the chest first, your, you've got your person, they're warm on their back, you're gonna put a towel or across their chest with a bottle on it. Right simple, simple, and you're gonna bundle them up. Now with the chest, full mentation. The feet need to be in a hot water bath. Okay, and you're going to need a couple of cloths with cold for the head and in the back of the neck. So the idea here is to keep the lower extremities warm.
The head and the upper, a little cool And really get the internal body temperature around the lungs heated up, but you don't want to overheat the person so then you get a bit of cooling on the head but the feet and and the rest of the body are warm. And then you're going to time that for five minutes. And when the five minutes has this is somewhat warm enough you could you can even use a heating pad on top so if you have the hot water bottle you can wrap it probably what I would do if I didn't find this was staying hot enough. I would have my other heating pad and then I would use the hot water bottle wrapped in the heating pad and then cover the person up so you really got them wrapped up in blankets quite toasty warm. Then after five minutes, you're taking all that off the person's still got their back nice and warm on the heating pad.
And you're simply just gonna you know, get get this cold and I keep the water cooled with the these ice packs rather than ice, you can definitely use ice. But I find those are going to stakeholder longer and I don't have to make ice cubes. And then what you're going to do to the body so if you say this is my chest, you're going to do some just a vigorous Cool, right and you're going to let the person know before you put this on them that you've that they're going to be experiencing some cold because it's going to feel quite cold after that quite warm compress that you've put on there. So you're going to scrub it To subscribe, just and you'll see how the skin has gotten all pink. Right? So it's like the rasa glove massage where it brings that that bit of color to the skin because the blood circulation is increased.
So that's what you're going to do after that and then you put everything else back on again your you got your heating pad, maybe filled this. So I like to have two so I can have one that's ready to go after this one and this one actually is a bit thinner rubber, so it feels hotter faster, but might not last as long the heat as this one. So if the person starts to get chilled at all during the heating process the five minutes of heat, then you know that this isn't staying warm enough you're gonna have to use a heating pad the feeder Water, you're keeping the head cool. So you're just basically feeling if once the cloth gets warm on the person's forehead, then you're going to change it probably every five minutes while you're while you're doing this. So you do that three to five times.
So it's going to take anywhere from, it's probably going to take you about half an hour to do a treatment where you've done it three times. Does that make sense? That's not I can send you a video. And we can actually do a full meditation treatment but this is good to do anywhere where there's not good circulation. So if I had bad circulation in my legs or my hands, you can do the hydrotherapy under the sink, very easy. You can put the compresses on the legs.
Certainly if you have menstrual pain, you're just going to do warm for menstrual pain. By A lot of women will find that a warm compress will will help with that kind of contraction, pain right spasms. So that's basically it. You can certainly by fermentation pad, they're great. You got to wrap them up with a whole bunch of towels and it's a bit of a rigmarole but that fermentation thing will stay hot pretty much for your whole treatment. And when you're doing it on the back, you don't put a heating pad on on the stomach.
So there's no no heating pad, and there's no nothing you need to do for the head or the feet when it's on the back. So on the back, you're you're simply would you would cover your person with a good towel, thick towel, put the heat on another towel blanket, so the person was warm. And, and so it's much simpler. And then you just gonna scrub the back the area all over the back in between applications of heat. It's pretty simple, but it's amazingly effective. And so if you have someone there's they're having a hard time breathing, they've got a lot of mucus congestion.
Don't wait, just do this, get it, get it moving for them. Because if that starts to sit, then you can do it for yourself if you have to, if there's nobody else around. I've done it myself and it's not 100% perfectly done, but it's good enough to get the job done. That's basically you just want to do the heat and cold. If you get into a situation you can't remember how many minutes should it be doesn't matter. Just do it.
Just do the heat and cold you know, the cold is short, because no one's going to tolerate a whole lot of cool, especially when they don't feel well right. So that's in value. All knowledge to have, we should all we should be taught that in school so that we don't end up going to emerge with things that could have been caught a lot earlier. Right. And then so there's a boiling water method, there's a steaming method, you can have these in your notes. These will require it just requires a lot more stuff.
And, I mean, you can certainly do the hot towels, they're really nice. But again, it's you've got to have five towels and then five to 10 more towels to wrap those Wet Ones in because you're not laying wet towel right on the person you're going to wrap that in a cloth. So there's a lot a lot of extra stuffs I find this easy and I think most people have this on hand. If you don't have hot water bottle on hand then sure you can Soak your towels in in some hot if you've got two people to bring them out and use it that way, or you can put them in water and heat them up in the microwave. So that's the best use of a microwave. But don't stand too close to it while you've got it on.
Yeah. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you would feel invigorated, right?
Because it's, it's just waking your whole system up a circulation. Yeah. So the same thing with the sweat lodges? Yeah. Yeah. sweat lodge is a bit different.
It's pretty intensive, right. So you're doing some pretty deep work there. But often they'll be going into something cool or even outside is cool after after sweat. Okay, so castor oil packs are another thing has anyone ever done a castor oil pack? Sure you have I have these are excellent for stimulating. stimulating function and cleansing.
It's a it's a stimulus that the body has to respond to. And it has a lot of fabulous qualities. It of course it goes back to all your VEDA and Japanese used it in their healing art so they can trace it to the Egyptians, but that's common Egyptian stuff too. It's coming from a lot of influence from Iron Maiden native to India. But and have you ever seen the castor bean plant they grow them here or in a mentally Oh, there's Huge and radish type leaves and then they have the bean pods right? Yeah, yeah.
So here's some of the qualities of heals inflamed skin fight signs of aging women will use it on their face. So I wish I'd known this a long time ago I didn't have ringworm but a partner of mine did and that would have been very helpful for him. disinfect wounds works as a laxative. This is all topically This is not internal.
So there's there is some Talk about whether it should be taken internally at all I know that certainly that has been done in the past the grandmother would give the kid with the tummy ache castor oil, but there's a bit it's pretty intense stuff to be given the child in their stomach. I don't know if I there's other things that can be used for stomach upset. boost immunity treats back pain promotes hair growth, it's a big one for hair growth. So people can massage it into their scalp if they're starting to go bald. premature greying prevents that so this has Castro has the effect to be able to really stimulate a an organ that's not functioning well and really help to heal it. So it's really useful to do over the abdomen for the internal organs, especially over the liver and There are many ways to do it.
Some people will soak a whole rag in castor oil and you can use it again. So don't just toss it out, you're going to keep it in in a plastic bag. Other people say oh, that's kind of a waste and they will just put the castor oil on the spot and then put a heating pad over top. So again, we're going to use some heat to get that castor oil to soak in to the skin. I think there's a healthy balance between those two because I don't it's not the same to have just a bit of castor oil on there rather than a whole soaked kind of cotton and again, they would use a combination cotton wool, but I don't like wool on my skin. So I just use cotton.
So you're going to take an all towel that you don't need anymore. And I would probably do a bit of soaking of the towel with the castor oil but I'm not going to go all the way through all the layers. I do think that's a bit of a waste, but because eventually this will go kind of rancid and you'll be able to smell it when it goes off, it won't smell good. So pretty much that's what I do. There's enough there that it's gonna soak into the area that I want it on. And basically you're gonna get yourself decide where you're going to lay.
You're going to put this on the area, say it's the abdomen and the Mum, say that word very well. And then put another towel or cloth over top of this. You can put a piece of plastic over top to if you don't want to get your other towel dirty and then you put your heating pad Some people what they'll do is have an extra little towel, big towel or blanket, they put this on, they got the plastic they've gone to another thing, they put the heating pad, and then they wrap the towel all the way around. So it just kind of holds the heating pad in, holds the heat in. And then you're just laying there for usually about 20 minutes is the usual time. So you know anyone who has problems with menstrual pain, abdominal cramps, you got sluggish digestion, constipation.
You, you think your liver needs cleaning out it's a wonderful thing to do near the end of a cleanse. Just stimulate the liver habit, do a little bit of a flush.
