And I think this is what turns off some Western scientific minds when they start reading the terracotta Mita which is the first book in, in the Vedic literature. But this really is influenced by yoga so they say all your VEDA and yoga are sister disciplines. And when you talk about your VEDA, they talk about how do we get to be how we are right how do we get have these senses and the six tastes and, and so they talk about pure consciousness, and that's called purusha and then purusha becomes property which is the seer the scenes, so out of purusha other pure consciousness comes nature, right? It comes that quality of consciousness that actually starts to experience itself as something separate from pure consciousness, which is the one the all the Enlightenment experience that we have when when we meditate to a deep level of meditation.

And they have, there's so many names in the spiritual knowledge from yoga, this, these are just a few. My heart is experience without the sense of eyeness. So when if you're in a certain level of meditation, you might not experience that same kind of ego sense that we do when we're walking around every day and living our lives on the planet. And that's one step below this pure consciousness that happens after we die. For some of us, Maha and then a Hong car is a sense of eyeness. So that's when we start to develop and we're not even in the physical form here yet.

But this is the the layers of how we become into a material form on this planet from pure consciousness. And then from a Hong Kong or the sense of eyeness, we start to discern all of these different things. And so we have, we're going to talk more about sattva, rajas and Thomas and I'm just going to go through this very quickly. Because it's not practical your VEDA This is getting into more than philosophy. But but it's a very deep body of knowledge that brings yoga together in without your VEDA. And sattva is a kind of a pure energy, the basis for discrimination that's when you sit in a very clear place of consciousness without a whole bunch of movement in the mind.

And then Roger system we're moving it's a more moving aspect of on the planet. So when you see things that are The moving aspect in the body as well. dynamic movement, and Thomas is not moving, it's more inertia. So Thomas is often related to Earth. Rogers is often related to fire, that movement that energy that makes things happen, and Sapa is more related to air when it comes to the elements. And so out of sattva gives rise to the five sense faculties are nose, ears, skin, tongue, eyes, eye five organs of actions, or mouth hands, feet, sexual organs and anus and the mind, the mental operations of the mind.

On from Thomas comes everything from from the five elements of the world of form, which space air fire, earth and water. And then we come into from space we hear sound from air, we have touch from fire, we have sight from water, we have taste. And from earth we have smell. So that's how it all relates, and then that comes together forms life. So we have all of this detailed knowledge, and there's books and books and books written about every one of these. And we have life and then we have our tri dosha.

As we come out of the womb after all of these processes have occurred, and they've already occurred in the world around us. We then are made up in different combinations of pit and cough. I'm going to go into mental nature. So this is where we have sattvic, rajasic and tamasic. We had sattva, rajas and Tamas earlier in that whole philosophy. So when we talk with say someone's Vata, we also have to break it down are they assaulted Dr. erogenous rajasic butter or tamasic butter and so it's If we look at soffit Vata, that will be someone who's very centered in in a very balanced Fatah.

They have true enthusiasm, they're adaptable, good communicator, they initiate projects and they have a capacity for positive change. When you go get a rajasic Vata the rajasic Vata the person starts to become a little more hyperactive, they're restless, they're overly talkative and disruptive and anxious and nervous. So we see a lot of children these days diagnosed with OCD, attention deficit disorder. If they have a lot of constitution, they would be seen as a rajasic Botha that those children have a nervous system that shaky and too wound up all the time. That breath will be high in the chest. They will usually eating a lot of processed foods as well.

And there's a lot of talk about damage from vaccines that are causing a lot of these kinds of rajasic issues. And then we have tamasic Vata, that's when Vata is so out of balance that they now become fearful, depressed, secretive, destructive, disturbed and suicidal. And who's this? Would she be saavik rajasic or tamasic? Anyone knows Audrey Hepburn very much? Yeah, yeah, she's a very soffit grata.

Yeah, she she's, she's done extremely well with a very fine bone constitution and which was exacerbated by the Second World War and having being malnourished but she's a very Thought that very kind, very peaceful. done some wonderful work in the world. Gwyneth Paltrow what would she be? Maybe she's a little more she's more Vata Pitta than Audrey Hepburn. But she's pretty unbalanced too. I would say I don't know that much about Gwyneth Paltrow.

And this is where you can't just look at the body type. But if you can see she's a little bit knocked neat here. That's a real Vata tendency. But her face like if you look at her face, she has large cheekbones, big eyes, she's got some coffee features in her face, just like Audrey Hepburn does, too. Right? She got the big eyes.

It's a very attractive look. That because a tiny Vata body and then these Kapha features In the face so she's pretty sattvic and if you know the diet that she recommends and she's living in a warm climate, she can kind of get away with it right now anyway. So she's she's done pretty well so then we look at Pitta Safa Pitta is someone who's, they've got a hot fiery nature, but it comes out as courage. They have a sense of goodwill to other people. They're intelligent and a good leader. So a lot of people who are sought the pitches will be in the environmental movement, you know, they have a lot of ethics there.

They're really trying to make a difference in the world and and they have a lot of drive to do that. The rajasic Pinto starts to become aggressive, manipulating, impulsive, and willful. So you can see that when you look at small children when in India, when she'll Are are growing up they're identified right from the get go partly through their, your Vedic astrological chart, Vedic astrological chart, but also because of all your VEDA and so the parent knows how to parent that particular child if they have that information. Not every child can be parented, the same way. You may have a very soft fixed Sweetwater child that doesn't need you raise your voice to that child and they cower, right? You have a rajasic kind of fits a child, you're going to have to come you want to move that person more to sattva by certain lifestyle and diet, but you have to know how to deal with that kind of personality type.

And then you have a tamasic picture. There your psychopaths vindictive, distrustful and hateful. So here's a very picked up person, Sean Penn and some of us might know you He's very pitiful look at the definition of his of his muscle structure, right? very defined even though he's probably in his late 50s. Here easy. What would you call him?

Sattvic rajasic or tamasic? Because he's very he has that to him for sure. Yeah. He also has a pretty hot, fiery temper. So I would say he probably goes up. He says, Does he beat his partner?

Oh, no, I didn't want to know that about him. Oh, sorry. You've gone over into the rajasic tamasic. He's very, you know, and this is a person that has that goodwill to him. But probably through lifestyle diet has gone to excess heat. excess heat going into Thomas How about this guy?

Was so damn cute. I used to think he was cute until he he's pretty rajasic Yeah. Yeah. I don't know how crazy he's gotten, but he's gotten pretty crazy. Yeah. So so we're looking at someone who's just moved to, you know, dangerous people, right?

Need we say more. So, so we have, you know, we're we're getting to watch very tamasic rajasic you know, nasty kind of leader. This would be a person who would never be made a leader in India ever. They would know better. So then we have sattvic Kapha Stop bit coffee. They're your salt of the earth folks are calm, loving patient and receptive.

When they become rajasic they get overly sentimental attached, controlling and materialistic. Nice to see you, Valerie. I'm glad you couldn't make it for so long. Yeah. And then, as they go even further out of balance become tamasic. There's a dull, apathetic, lethargic and insensitivity that starts to happen.

When you have a child that has some of these qualities, that child needs a lot of teaching to understand the sensitivity of others people with big bones especially with if they have calloused hands thick skin. If you know you say Oh, you're too thin skin, you're too thick skin those actually mean something you look at someone who has a very, very fine skin. on their hands and even on my feet, very, very thin fine skin. Lisa, same way, very sensitive nervous systems, right? Can't take a lot of craziness around us or will freak out a tamasic cough I will not understand that at all. A sattvic Coffee will understand that that will not be their experience of the world because they're they're stronger they can keep going in the face of things that come at them from the world were more somewhat of a more about to nature will will collapse a lot sooner.

And the more out of balance the Vata person is the more they're going to collapse sooner too. All of these are reversible, right? And this is what our VEDA teaches us. So when we start to go too far, one direction, we can reverse it. And this is a very unflattering photograph of Oprah But this is Oprah in her, what would you say? aspect because we've seen her many different go back and forth over the years.

What she's probably not feeling her best here, right? So she probably a little more lethargic. going towards Thomas right. She's got a lot of weight on her here. She's a puffiness under the eyes. And to be fair to her here she is looking terrific, right?

So she's someone who needs a fair bit of exercise has to keep moving right? She's going to become stagnant and she's not going to feel well. So let's look at the factors that aggravate try though motion. That's one of the two pages that you have gotten that aren't in your little package. So we're gonna look At then we're going to break this down into the separate components. So you have an all on one page like this handout.

But let's look at the exogenous factors that are things are external to us the seasonal factors and emotional factors that can aggravate Vaught pits and cough. So, what what aggravates Vata is wind cold and dryness pit external factors that will aggravate pitcher heats on in fire, of course, so like increases like so, if you're hot and bothered and you're in a hot place and you do things that are heating and eat foods that are heating you're going to explode. So like increases like, and coffee, it's dampness in court. So often people have a cough a constitution They can in the spring because Kafka will tend to accumulate over the winter wheat, heavier foods were not as active. They can get a chest cold that is damp, ends up being very Flemmi in the chest if you have access Kafka. So the seasons that aggravate Vata are fallen early winter, why?

Yeah, windy, dry, cold, right. And the season that aggravates pitcher, of course is summer, mostly summer, late spring as it starts to warm up. These people are running for shade all summer. And cough is, like I said earlier, late winter, early spring is going to be their aggravating season. emotions that will aggravate Vata, anxiety and fear. So what has to be very For that they don't allow themselves to worry and that will be their tendency.

So the more that important things to keep Vaught from worrying is to keep warm. If they get cold and dry, they're going to worry more, they tend to worry more in the fall in the winter, because they'll tend to be cold and dry. So you have to keep yourself warm. You can't go outside without a freakin hot anger, hate jealousy and envy. It's gonna anger is a very hot emotion. When you get angry, you tend to sweat it You tend you can feel arise, the face gets run.

So the more that we carry around anger, hate jealousy and envy, the more we're going to aggravate that heat in ourselves. And that's for everybody. Not not just a pit to type but the pit. It's gonna aggravate put in everybody the pit the types are going to be more straight susceptible to these emotions, cough, greed and possessiveness. So it's not good for cough to start collecting things when you watch the hoarder shows, a lot of those folks will be, you know, hoarders, and I'm talking extreme here, your jewelry collection is beautiful. Don't worry about that.

You know, so, you know, we do things that make us happy, but we need to know is our tendency to want to collect balanced by your tendency to want to give to others. A lot of coffe people are very, very, very giving salt of the earth, folks, right? So you want to watch when there's any slovenly kind of behavior that comes around so I have a dear friend who's moving in that direction, too much. Too much heaviness on her person and getting lazy and then the houses shambles, right? So that starts to happen. And that's particularly not good.

Not good for anybody. But we'll take coffee in a bad direction towards depression usually. So the tastes that aggravate Vata, bitter and astringent. So if fat has too much green tea, for instance, that's bitter and astringent, that's going to aggravate the dryness right? and make them feel and coldness and make them go more in that direction. Pet has to watch out and this is how they say it in India cough pit about the a is very short.

So I'm kind of going back and forth because I know here we say Vata, Pitta, kapha, but they don't do that there. So in my mind, I go both ways, but pit is hot, salty and sour they have to be aware of because that's going to increase heat, right. And coffee sweet and salty, but That will increase tissue. So, again, you see a lot of Vata folks and gweneth Paltrow is one who's doing a lot of cold, dry raw foods and kind of fasting. And that will aggravate a lot. So always over time, you know, who knows, we don't know the details of these people's lives, but there could be a tendency for someone with a constitution doing those foods, particularly if they live in a cold, dry climate, to start to have nervous disorders start to be a bit neurotic for those kinds of things.

Again, pit hot foods, red meat, fermented foods and alcohol, very unbalancing. So you see a lot of red faced men doing barbecue and drinking beer all summer. Not good, not good. Cough cold heavy fatty foods and overeating so what for cough whenever ghee is recommended, there's usually some astringent as well you really want to have that astringent with the lemon on top to cut the ghee and if the skin is oily or there's mucus, then you cut back a little bit on the game but you could still should still have it. It's still important, just not as much as say someone who's more Vata who needs that for the dryness. sleep patterns so what we will tend to have interrupted light sleep, they need dark room, everything needs to be quiet.

They're the babies who wake up with every little sound right? The pitcher will have interrupted little sleep. So as well they can tend to this tendency Waking up during the night as well. And Kapha excessive sleep and sleep during the day, these are factors that aggravate it. So everybody needs a least a good you know, five, six hours Votto usually sleeps less five, six hours fit, maybe six, seven and coupled sleep about eight. If Kapha were to sleep a little less, that would be better.

If that were to sleep a little more, that would be better. Generally that's not the case. But it will tend to excessive activity and lack of routine which is very, very bad for them. So the more that you tend to run around as a water person and you got all this on the go, you're going to take yourself more and more out of balance. Pit it has to avoid frustrating activities and exercising and the heat so caught they tend to work Competition, that's what they're gonna want to do. As they get more out of balance, they're gonna want even more of that they're gonna get angry and they're gonna like, you know, those are the people you got to watch out for.

And they don't have a lot of patience generally. So you got to be careful if you have a child that has a piton nature, nature and not a lot of patience, but you don't frustrate that child. Right? And that they get they need anger management skills from a very, very early age. You know, your coffee, babies are going to sleep. They're the ones are going to lay down for a nap and you won't hear from them for two hours.

My daughter she 15 minutes if she napped at all, you know and she's still the same and so my cough lack of exercise is really going to aggravate coffee now the only time that coffee will need rest is when they're ill And cough will tend to keep going and keep going and keep going even though they're very ill because they have a lot of stamina. So they have to really watch out for factors. The first signs of excess in the first signs of active toxicity, which we're going to talk about, are they they contend to be ill without really knowing it and then all of a sudden, they're going to have a problem. So when we look at symptoms of aggravated tried OSHA, we talked about this, the air turns into a drying wind aggravated and that's in the body. So it as well as being in the environment in the body.

They'll talk about VA Vata as a driving force and a moving kind of wind force in the body. And you'll start to experience pain spasms, dryness, constant, dry constipation, stiffness, cold anxiety, restlessness in the body. When I'm doing bodywork on someone, it feels like constriction, right? The tissue will be like Woody and dry. The ligaments have no give to them. Everything is crispy and and you feel like you can could break the bones you know you have to be much more careful with these type of people, especially with Thai massage.

Oil massage is very very helpful pits the fire aggravated that turns into a firestorm. So there's going to be burning happening, right? I'm very close these days to inflammation. It's partly harm hormonal. It's partly emotional. So any kind of emotion where I feel angry or if I even go close to feeling that I get a bit of a I can feel a little The heat.

So I mean I'm catching things very, very early on. Most people are not even paying attention to these things. They just take an aspirin, right? So there'll be a burning sensation. There'll be redness somewhere. perspiration is, without exercise, right?

Just sweating. Sometimes if you have a coffee in the morning, you might notice a bit of perspiration, coffee's very heating. For someone with this type of heat in their system. It's going to cause an inflammatory response, any kind of bleeding so there can be blood in the stool. So it can be blood in the urine, excessive urination, that's quite dark yellow. Diarrhea is a sign of excess heat.

And or it can also be irritation to the colon, but usually that's an inflammation that's happening in the colon. And anger and delirium, so you know you get a fever that gets so hot. Then it becomes this you can become delusional delirium. Coffee will be the water rises and drowns functions. So when they get when someone with excess coffee catch goes out in the cold in the spring without a hat and a scarf on and they get this deep lung infection with a lot of mucus, right? They it's like the, the tissues filling up with water, excess water and the body's trying to trying to protect itself from that drowning by creating this mucus to expel it out of the system.

So you get congested called edema, swelling, obesity, indigestion, lethargy, lassitude depression. So when I'm working on someone with inflammation, I can just feel it. It's hot. It's gonna you know, someone With an inflamed knee is going to feel the knees gonna feel hotter than the rest of the tissue. Right? Someone was stagnation Cava I love working on these folks because they feel fabulous after Thai massage because Thai massage really moves stagnation, right?

So, stagnation will feel you know, you got to push on a muscle and it's just hard and thick. There's no give to it, that stagnation. So what's a healthy bodily function? We need to know what to look for to know if we're healthy. And it's not just an absence of disease because you can go along for years and people say oh, then all of a sudden, I had this. Did you know this happened?

It actually is not all of a sudden there's been very subtle changes over time that people have ignored and the doctors have no clue about right. So signs of healthy body function with digestion after You eat there should be no feeling of heaviness there should be no extension of the abdomen there should be no gas burping and you shouldn't feel tired after you eat the stool one to two bowel movements a day one in the morning and it has the size and shape of banana and the consistency of banana that should come out easily in one go and be light brown. It shouldn't smell really bad. Although the pitous is going to smell worse. The vortex doesn't have as much smell usually and cough is going to be more of a sweet smell. If your stool is very sweet smelling, you're moving towards diabetes.

Okay. The tongue should be a pink color. It has a little light white coating in the morning and that's why we use a tongue scraper to scrape that white coating off It shouldn't be trembling like when you stick it out it should be for it should be able some people they stick out their tongue it's trembling, sign of weakness, no red marks, patches or gouges, color of the tongue is not pale red purple, it's just a nice bright pink right? The coating should not be thick or courteous. Our yellowish green is gray or black. If your tongue is black, you are very very close to death usually from some kind of poisoning, licorice oh well yeah.

Or beets. I mean there are things like that that are going to change it but this is in the morning when you wake up. Cough will tend to have a little thicker coating in the morning. Because they have a bit more congestion generally in their system. A pitch will be tend to have a little less it'll be thinner coating and their tongue can tend to go a little Read. Now they gotta watch that those are signs and symptoms so every morning when you scrape your tongue you're looking at it and that's telling you what you know really instructing you whether you should be doing middle of the road kitchen every cut back on the spices, maybe it's kind of gray and pale that means you're weak.

The nail should be smooth and strong not chipped, brittle or rigid and there's a whole method, process of nail diagnosis in iron VEDA which is also done along with looking at the eyes and looking at all the bodily functions. Looking at the hair. The hair should be shiny and strong, not dry, not easily pulling out not limp and not prematurely grading. muscle tone This is should be resilient to pressure not doughy or rock hard. So I get pitched to folks in here who are going to the gym and they hold their bodies tight all day. They're intense, right, and their muscles have no gift to them at rest.

So at rest, there should be a bit a machinist to not machinist give resiliency it should spring back at you. When you're going into a disease process, you start to lose that resume resilience and either it becomes dried out and stringy, becomes hard as a rock, or it becomes mushy. joints no stiffness or cracking. vato will tend to have more stiffness and cracking than the other doses and more in the morning. They'll have morning stiffness. The eyes shouldn't be read dry, gummy or sleepy, nice and bright.

Lungs notice shortness of breath or constriction or wheezing or mucus injection and we want to be doing abdominal Breathing all day. So most people in the West are breathing up here. And we're going to do hopefully a whole session on this. But we need to get the breath down here. And it needs to be all day long and it needs and that's very important for digestion and total health, mental, physical and emotional health. This needs to happen all day long.

Most yoga teachers aren't doing this. And they're teaching the three breath, free three part breath by pushing the stomach out, flaring the ribcage and sucking up until you're like choking in your throat. Right. This is an incorrect way to teach three part breath. So we'll go into that in a lot more details. Very, very important.

Urination, you're going to go probably between four and eight times a day. Now. This is very interesting when I started increasing my water intake Take your ideal body weight and don't make it a ridiculous body weight, I'm never going to be 120 pounds again, I don't think. But my ideal body weight now, probably around 135 140, I could probably lose 10 pounds. So I'm going to take that 135 Let's make it 140 either round it off, I'm gonna have half of that in ounces, 80 ounces of water a day. minute, that's your minimum.

If you drink coffee, add another cup of water to that. So whatever your ideal body weight is, you have that and that's the number of ounces. That translates to like almost six of these a day. Now when I first started doing that people say oh, I drink more water. I'm peeing all the time. I peed like crazy for the first three weeks.

But why that is is because your cells get dehydrated and they stopped Having the capacity to absorb water and so just as running through you for the first little while until they start to develop that capacity again. Now I don't pee as much as I used to be and I drink a lot more water than I used to drink. So you may be looking at so I highly suggest that you measure it out and do that for a good week or so get a non plastic water bottle. And I mean there's a bit of plastic on the lid. I can't avoid that but get a non plastic water bottle, find out how many of these you need to drink a day. Now the more soup set you have, you may want less and you pay attention to your urine if your urine is a dark yellow color.

Your kidneys are working too hard. They're not enough water if your urine gets to be a really light pale yellow, but really, really light Then you're drinking too much water and your kidneys are working too hard. Okay? The first thing to do in the morning is have a glass of water do not have a cup of coffee without having a glass of water. It's very, very hard on the kidneys or tea. The skin is smooth, oily, you know, it's lubricated, it's not dry, it's warm, not clammy, cold or dry.
