So introversion versus extraversion. So we're going to talk about a little bit about introversion and extraversion in this video, and show you how it relates to language learning and how it will make you a better language learner with a better understanding of this. So not as learning French, I had this perception I this idea that introversion was about being shy about being reserved and extraversion is about being social and naturally communicative. And even if that's a word, person. So with that misunderstanding, I always kind of limited myself, especially around languages, because languages involves talking to new people talking in new language, having some confidence in what you're saying. So you're engaging.
But with the introversion belief, I felt like that wasn't me. So that was limiting me. What I found out in hindsight, is that introversion and extraversion lie in a spectrum is you're never fully 100% introverted, or you're never fully 100 and extroverted. And actually, there's a great quote from the guy who actually came up with these two concepts Carl young, great psychologist who said that there was no such thing as a pure introvert or extrovert that such as an individual will be in a lunatic asylum. So I've grown to believe the same thing now that I used to think that I was 100, introverted and not extroverted. But I realized that which I desire to do something, I could bring out a more extroverted side to myself.
So why this is relevant is because if you're holding on to this belief that you're shy right now, then you can leave go have that. I'm not saying it's easy, but you can actually train yourself out of that. When it comes to introversion extroversion, I like to think of it in the sense of energy. So introverts generally will get their energy from being alone. And extroverts get their energy from being around other people. So with that knowledge, it's just a matter of where you get your energy from your introverted side can help you to learn languages in the sense that it might help you to listen more because you don't tend to speak for the sake of it.
If you're an extrovert, you might be speaking for the sake of it. You might realize Maybe you can listen more and get more in touch with her introverted side. So basically, it's a spectrum that allies across. If you're an introvert right now, it doesn't mean that you need to be limited in the way you go about things. And if you're an extrovert as well, you can dial things back a little bit and you can listen to it more. So that's basically it.
Yeah, I've got a questionnaire document below the video where you can find out whether you're more of an introvert right now or an extrovert and how you can go about bringing out aspects of yourself that you're not aware of right now, that will make you a better language learner. So in the next video, we're going to look at self honesty and experimentation and how this relates to becoming a more effective language learner.
