Hello and welcome to lesson three of Chinese reflexology for headaches and migraines. You may notice in this video that it looks a little bit different and sounds a little bit different than the other two videos. That's because this lesson was presented to a live audience. But it's a continuation of the first two lessons. So same great content, same great information, just a slightly different format. Hello, and welcome to lesson three of Chinese reflexology for headaches and migraines.
So I'm Holly see the founder of Chinese foot, reflexology calm. And I want to thank you so much for joining me throughout this online course. And for making the extra effort to join live today for the final lesson. So this lesson is going to take everything you've learned so far and it's going to integrate it into a really powerful reflexology routine that you can use whenever you have head pain, so you can use it for day to day maintenance. You can also use it to help you get fewer headaches and migraines in the future. So I've already been receiving emails and comments from people who have been participating in the course.
And they're using the stuff that they've learned so far already to get rid of their headaches or PMS, migraines. And it's happening while they're watching the video as they're following along. I had one woman say that her pain level went from a nine to a to another woman whose husband he was struggling with chronic pain for sorry, this content. I feel really emotional about this because this is why I do what I do. He was struggling with chronic pain in his head for seven years. So seven years and he'd been taking multiple medications with all sorts of side effects.
And then about three weeks ago, this woman she was trying to find something to help her husband so she was surfing online because he was sick again from work. He had to take another sick day because He was in so much pain, he couldn't even get out of bed. And so what this wonderful woman did this wonderful wife did was she followed the directions on my website. And she said, just from that time where she was rubbing his feet, it had cut his pain in half, like actually by more than a half. So for the past few weeks, she's been using the migraine points. And she said that it's been the best three weeks in the last seven years for her husband.
Can you imagine that, like seven years he's had this then she finds my website, and it's made such a difference. She's She's, like, thrilled this woman was thrilled because her husband is smiling again. That's what she said to me. So it just, I can heart like I said, I can hardly speak about it because it makes me so happy and just gives me so much joy, to hear stories from readers and from students. And that's really why I do what I do because I love it when people are eager to learn what I have to teach and that they use the stuff to me Make a difference in their lives. So let's jump right into lesson three, we'll go over the big picture.
So this is in reference to your big toe, because we've learned all these different points. And then when you see how it all fits together, it's like Ah ha, and then it becomes really easy to use the stuff. I'm going to go over putting it all together. So how do you take all this information and you can then create a powerful reflexology routine that you can use for pain relief. So when that headache or migraines strikes, then you've got something you can use right away, and how you can also customize this routine based on your symptoms. So where are you feeling the pain in your head, what else is going on?
And then you can then sort of like plug and play like mix and match different points and I'll tell you how to do this. Now before we begin, I will give my common sense announcement. The information in this course is for educational purposes only, and should not be used as a substitute for proper medical advice or treatment. So, use common sense. If you or a loved one is sick or unwell, please go see your doctor. So let's get into the big picture.
So we're going to take a step back, catch the bad pun there, step back. And we're going to look at the big picture. And ironically, by looking at the big picture, we're actually going to look at something really small, which is your big toe. If you remember, you saw this slide, or something similar to it in the previous lesson, where you learned a whole bunch of points on your big toe. So did you notice as you were following along that there were so many points that were specific to the big toe. And if we go back to this slide, which you've also seen before, this is that outline of a body over the soles of the feet.
So you see how that outline of the head is right over the big toes. Now let's zoom in on this. I'll walk you through this video. hearing a little more detail. So see where I've labeled top, right on the top of the toe there, that toe tip that is the top of your head and see how that outline is right there. And then where I have side written, that's the side of your head.
And then right where it says face, that's the front of the head. So your big toe is really is like this complete microcosm for your head. And then I want to point out where it says middle. So when I say middle, it's kind of like if you're dividing your head and half, that would be the middle of your head right there. And this would also include like, if you're kind of following that outline, so just imagine the rest of it below this slide. And then that's your neck.
So that center area, that side there along the edge of the toe also corresponds to you know what's in the middle there. That's your spinal column. That's where your neck is. And even your nose point is on the edge of that toe, because your nose is right in the middle of your face. Now when we take a look at the toe pad, it's the same, same thing. So you've got a top, for the top of the head, you got the side for the side of the head, you got that middle area.
And you also have that area for the base of the skull. So you learn that brain point, and how to focus on the bottom third for the occipital region. And that's what's showing in your big toe here. So if you keep these diagrams in mind, then it's really easy because all you have to think about is when you have pain in your head. You think about where would that be on my big toe, so it becomes very easy, then you don't have to think okay, this specific point I do it this way. You just go Oh, okay, it's on this part of my head and you're on the top.
So I should be focusing a little more on the top of my toe. So there are a few points to remember another bad pun there. So things to keep in mind when you're rubbing your toe when you're massaging in a direction away from the tip of the toe, that's helping you clear away that stagnation and congestion in your head. So if there's too much energy there that's causing that stabbing throbbing pain in your head. Then when you're rubbing away from the tip, then it's like you're, like I said before, it's like you're sweeping the dirt out the door of the house, as opposed to just sweeping back and forth. And but the thing is, too, though, there are some points, like you learned where you were actually massaging back and forth.
And in that case, what you're doing is you're taking a more balanced approach to the massage where you're helping to prove the flow of tea and blood through the area, which is also very beneficial. The only thing you need to watch for is that you do not massage towards the toe tip. That's the only thing that is a big No, no, but as long as you're going away, that's good. And if you're going back and forth, then you've got a balanced approach and that's fine too. And The other thing to remember about those energy meridians is that the left toe is for the right side of the head. And the right toe is for the left side of the head because your energy meridians cross over at the neck and switch sides.
And that's the theory behind the traditional Chinese reflexology. So let's put everything together. You've got this big picture view. Now I'm going to give you a bigger picture view, not just your little tote right, or your little big toe. So I'll tell you how you put together everything you've learned so far. But of course, before I have to go over the guidelines for practicing Chinese reflexology first, so reflexology is very safe, especially this gentle style where you're massaging with your fingers and thumbs and it's very complimentary with other treatments, but you want to be practicing.
When you're doing the reflexology keep it away from your meals like one hour before or one hour after. You can try But not close to when you eat because the key is concentrated in your digestion at that time. So when you're massaging your feet, the reflexology won't be as effective. Also, the improvement in the flow of tea and blood helps to clear and release toxins that have been held in the body a long time. So you want to be drinking a lot of water to help flush that out. And it is preferable to abstain from alcohol because alcohol is really hard for your body to metabolize.
So when you are focused on healing you want to keep things light and healthy and easy for your body. The next guidelines to go over don't practice reflexology. If you're pregnant, especially during the first trimester it is because there are points on your feet and around the ankles that are used in acupuncture to stimulate labor so you don't want to be pressing those. And also exercise caution for a heart condition, diabetes or a compromised immune system. I talked about these much more extensively in previous lessons. So you can refer back to the previous lessons for more details.
But long story short, if these things apply for you use a lighter pressure and massage for less than the recommended time like maybe start with half the talk, then see how you're feeling as long as you're not detoxing faster than your body can handle. So that can lead to detox symptoms such as you know, headache, which you don't want, or tiredness, then as long as you're feeling good, then you can very gradually increased pressure and time. But most importantly, if you're not sure whether you should be practicing reflexology, just check with your doctor. So here is the basic routine for headaches and migraines. Now you're going to be massaging the points on both of your feet so not just one or the other. This is regardless of where the pain is.
This is the basic routine where you'll massage these points on both of your feet. So, large intestine four, if you remember that one that's in the webbing of the hand and you will press it for 60 seconds, press and hold for 60 seconds on both hands. Liver three, this point in the webbing between the big toe and second toe, again, press and hold for 60 seconds on both feet. Same thing for gallbladder 41. It's in the webbing between the fourth and fifth or the pinky toe. So on both feet, you press and hold for 60 seconds.
Then there's the face point which you just saw in that diagram which is on the top surface of the toe, and that's the one where you will massage it back and forth for 30 to 60 seconds and remembering you're going in the direction away from the toe tip. So once you get to the base of the toe, you pick your thumb and you repeat the massage. And then finally there is the temporal area point This one you will massage for 30 seconds. And this is the one you've seen quite a few times. So you know how to locate this one and how to massage it. And it's on the inside edge of the big toe.
You may be wondering, Okay, I see these points, but I learned a whole bunch more what happened to those points? Well, I'll tell you what you do with those points. Now. You use these points to customize the basic routine based on where you're experiencing pain. These points are kind of like the ushers in the movie theater that lead you to your seat. So your GPS like that basic routine gets you to the theater, but then when you want to find a very specific seat, then you start to use like these assures these other points.
These points then they let you target specific areas on your head to help balance the flow of ci and blood in the area. So here's a few different cases. So if you have pain around the eyes, forehead or sinus area, remember Have those four sinus cavities around the forehead and beside the nose. If you're having pain there, you want to add the sinus point. And so you'll add 60 seconds for the sinus point. You also want to make sure that you're massaging the face points, same similar area for the full 60 seconds.
So I told you before, you could massage it for 30 to 60 seconds. If you're having pain in that front area of your face, you want to massage for 60 seconds, not just 30. But the thing is, is that because you're massaging the sinus point and the face point, there's like an added benefit of massaging both at the same time. So when you massage one point, there's a benefit. But when you add a second point, it's like it becomes more powerful. It's like that saying where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts and it's very true with Chinese reflexology, as you add more points you also The healing power and you really assist your body in its ability to return to balance.
So if you have stabbing pain This is quite common for people where they might have stabbing pain and one eye or both eyes. Add another 60 seconds for the face putt for the opposite toe. So if you're feeling that stabbing pain through your right eye, you want to massage your left toe the face point for an additional 60 seconds if you have pain in the top of your head at the sinus point, but you want to focus right on the very very tip of that toe because as you saw in that diagram where we zoomed in on the big toe, that top of the toe is the top of your head and if you're experiencing nausea or dizziness that is accompanying your headache or migraine. Had the inner ear point for 60 seconds. If you recall, I showed you the slide of the gallbladder meridian on the head where it was in purple and it was like a crazy zigzag all over the side of the head.
And around the ears when there is a disruption in the flow of TCE in that Meridian, it's very easy for it to cause a disturbance to the ear area and inner ears. And that can result in the sensation of nausea or dizziness. So kind of similar to how they say when people get seasick. It's due to their inner ear being just like disturbed like out of balance. When you massage the inner ear point, it can help with the nausea and dizziness that can come with a headache or migraine. One more customization here and this is for pain in the side of the head and again, this is a very common thing a one sided headache.
So for this, you want to add 30 seconds of massage to the temporal area. point on the opposite toe from where you're experiencing the pain in your head. If you had pain in the left side of your head, then use your right toe. If you've got pain in the right side of your head, then use your left toe. So I've already had your students asking, well how often should they do this routine so I'll explain that to you. Now.
If you've got like a headache that just suddenly comes on. So for fast pain relief, you want to practice the routine. As soon as you start feeling discomfort, don't wait till it gets really severe because the sooner you catch it, the faster you can clear it away. The longer a condition is in your body, the longer it takes for you to clear it. So if you can catch it really early, then that is the best thing for you to do. You can do the routine for a maximum of three times a day.
So do it when you wake up in the morning. If you've got that headache when you wake up, do it in the afternoon and do it before a bit. For a lot of people like I've heard from so many readers who We're just using four of the points that I taught in my article. And within an hour or even less, some people 15 minutes, their head pain that they'd had for hours or even days was significantly improved. So chances are, you probably don't have to do it three times a day. If your head pain persists, or if it's different than what you normally experience, you should go see your doctor.
Okay, now for maintenance. So what do you do if you want to start clearing those channels in your head so that you get fewer headaches and migraines in the future. So you can do like a maintenance routine where you practice the basic routine twice a week. One thing I want to emphasize is Do not over massage your points. Restoring balance requires a balanced approach. Otherwise, you're kind of going at the whole thing with a lot of underlying stress.
That is completely counterproductive for healing. So sometimes I have people who are really eager to apply what they've learned because the thing, okay, I've had this for so long, let me just massage the heck out of my feet, and I'll get better faster. I really appreciate their enthusiasm, but that's not the best approach. It's much better to massage your feet, say, once a day for 10 days in a row than to not do anything until the 10th day and then you know, go all crazy with it and do 10 times as much in the one session. reflexology works just a little bit at a time a little bit at a time over time. Because the other thing too is with reflexology because it moves the CI and blood and which this helps to flush out long held toxins in the body in order not to experience any detox symptoms your body's ability to clear away the toxins has to match the level at which the toxins are being cleared.
So your body has to be able to efficiently handle the release of toxins. For example, if you've ever had like a deep tissue massage, and then the massage therapist tells you to soak in Epsom salts and then you feel a little bit achy afterward. And then after the ache Enos has gone you feel fantastic. So what could be happening there is that the deep tissue massage helps to release a lot of those long held toxins and then the ache Enos or that tiredness after words is one of those detox symptoms. There's a number of common detox symptoms and those include the tiredness, people sometimes get rash. That's the way your body's trying to clear stuff out.
It brings it to the surface of the skin. People can feel irritable, and then again another one of the host side effects or symptoms of detoxing like to faster than your body can handle instantly. a headache. And that's the last thing you want, right? When the body's systems for clearing toxins are not, you know, at the level they could be, so they're a little bit weak. For example, let's say in the case of somebody who has a chronic disease or they've had a condition for a long time, or even as I discussed, this is more severe where someone has a compromised immune system.
The thing that's going on is that the body's ability to clear toxins is not as robust. So it's really important then to follow the guidelines so that you don't over massage release this giant cache of toxins. I say ca c, h, e cash, not ca sh. But your body has to be able to handle it and clear it efficiently. Otherwise, you're just it's kind of like, here's a better example. Let's say you're cleaning your house.
Okay. And your houses you know you haven't cleaned it in a long time, you've got all this stuff piling up. Now what happens if you grab everything and then throw it out on the curb, you have just like a big mess in front of your house. Because if the garbage men come and they only collect two bags a week, then you're gonna have that giant mess festering in front of your house. Unless you can then you know, you go rent that big giant bin where then you can throw all the garbage in there and then it hauls it away, and then you don't have that issue of that big mess festering in front of your house. So same sort of thing with your body, you need to be going out and right taking out the trash at a rate that the garbage collectors come by.
And that's why like when I teach the like one of my more in depth programs, I have a very systematic approach where we focus first on getting the body primed and ready to clear away the toxins because then you can start doing the work on some of those other points for those other organs. energy meridians, the ones that are like these giant sponges for holding toxins, you can't work on those until the body's systems are ready to handle the release of the toxins. I hope that you will please please, please follow the guidelines given in this program, because they're designed to give you the greatest benefit while minimizing the risk of detox symptoms, because the last thing you want is to get another headache. And I hope I've made my point clear. So let's move on. By now you have a really good understanding of how healing energy works.
So let's move on to the next topic, the cure in quotes, quotations for headaches and migraines. So why is that in quotes? It's because Chinese reflexology is not a cure for disease. Now you're going to want What are you talking about? You see, disease is a construct of Western medicine doctors diagnose diseases and then they provide treatments or cures for the diseases. On the other hand, in Chinese medicine the focus is on diagnosing disruptions of energy in the meridians so there are patterns are called junk food patterns are these different patterns that can show up in the body based on these different dis harmonies and the energy meridians.
So in order to diagnose these junk food patterns, it's a pretty complicated process. So the licensed acupuncturist or TCM doctor will ask the patient a huge long list of questions like I remember doing this in clinic when I was studying Chinese medicine some of these questions are a little embarrassing to ask like, oh, what's the color of your stool? You know? You have diarrhea a lot. Are you constipated? You know is your mucus when you blow into a tissue?
Is it green or yellow? Or is it clear and white and you have a lot of it? So questions like that. But also, when doing the diagnosis, the practitioner will look at the tone, for the color, the shape, the size, the texture, cracks, etc. They'll feel the pulse. It's not just counting how many beats per minute, but it's a really subtle differences in the quality of the pulse.
And honestly, when I was first learning, they almost all felt the same. But as you start to feel many, many different pulses, there's these tiny, tiny, subtle differences. The thing too is the diagnosis depends on what the patient reports to. So sometimes, they may not report everything that needs to be said like this would happen with my husband when he'd go for acupuncture. Because I knew Chinese medicine, I would say, Oh, you absolutely have to tell the acupuncturist, about this thing that you're experiencing, even though you know from somebody who doesn't know Chinese medicine would go would never think to report that and it couldn't work. Change the entire diagnosis.
So the other thing that makes things complicated is these different junk food patterns can interact with each other. So one thing that may cause one symptom, that's all great, you see it in the textbook, but then you see a real person in the clinic. And they may have the exact opposite of what they're supposed to be showing, it's because of the interaction of another underlying condition affecting that pattern. So it can get pretty complicated. I want to bring you back to this slide comparing the external and internal causes of headache pain. So in Chinese medicine, you learn that external causes work outside of the body.
So these are triggers, things that kind of happened, like changes in the weather, or something you ate, or you know, catching the flu. And then the internal causes were due to an imbalance in the body, but really, if you take that step back, they're both in Due to an imbalance in the body, because even the external causes somebody is susceptible to this external trigger, because they have an underlying imbalance in their body that makes them susceptible to it. So 100 women could be outside when the atmospheric pressure is changing, they could all be eating ice cream cones, and they could all be on their, you know, monthly period. But not every one of them is going to get a headache or migraine. In fact, most of them aren't. But the ones who do react to those external triggers are the people who have that underlying imbalance that makes them susceptible to reacting.
As I explained to you Chinese medicine doesn't treat disease in the same way that Western does. So instead of focusing on like a disease, it focuses on treating the disharmony of those energy meridians so those junk food patterns and the ability to treat really depends on the skill of the practitioner. So I've heard some people say, Oh, I went to the acupuncturist for fertility treatments that didn't help me out. And then they just say, okay, acupuncture doesn't work. But what it is, is that acupuncture is specialize in different things. So when I was in school, there was one guy, he was the go to guy if you had any kind of like back pain, or sports injury, and here's the best one to go to.
But if you had some really challenging issues with fertility, you would not go to see him. Yeah, he'd follow the protocol, but you would go see another doctor because that was her specialty. The thing with Chinese reflexology is you don't have to worry about Okay, what's the Jong feu pattern? or What is this or did I remember to report this symptom that I didn't know I had to report because the focus is on restoring balance to the entire body and it's not dependent on somebody making a diagnosis and determining what is the best plan of action. It really Depends on what your feet have to say. So your feet will tell you where there aren't as harmonies in your body.
You don't have to worry about how they interact with each other because when you're massaging the points on your feet in a holistic way, the sum of the parts part is greater weight, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Pardon me. So when you're massaging the right way, Chinese reflexology helps to restore balance in the body and supports the body's natural healing process. And that's really the key to the cure for headaches and migraines. You need to address those internal disharmony as the imbalances in your energy meridians. And when you strengthen the energy meridians and bring them back into balance, that will then eliminate the susceptibility to headaches and migraines, from external triggers.
So when you can treat the real root Have a disease or ailment in your body. That's the key to amazing health and vitality. So it is beyond the scope of this course to talk about how to balance these meridians because what's out of balance is different for each person. So, one thing that may cause a headache of one person could be the exact opposite in another. But if you are interested in learning more, I'll tell you ways to learn more. So one of the easiest ways is to begin with my book of soul guidance.
This is a really fun and easy way to get an overview of Chinese reflexology, and start practicing at home. There are instructions and diagrams in the book that will guide you in your practice at home. And the book is available on Amazon and other online retailers in the US, Canada, UK, Australia and Book Depository calm worldwide.
